I watched a few episodes online, and I have to agree. I was really looking forward to In Darkness Dwells, but it was mediocre at best. The character of Killer Croc wasn't even needed, and didn't do anything. And if they're supposed to be tied to the movies, explaining how Scarecrow got out of that one is gonna be a doozy. I'd say Deadshot is worth a watch, and maybe Working Through Pain, but the others are unnecessary.

Visually, it was pretty cool. The way the story played out was less than what I expected. This still has soooooo much potential for future works. I would love to see a full-length anime-esque Batman film.

i thought it was brilliant! with the exception of "have i got a story for you" i thought all the other chapters were awesome! not that i didnt like "have i got a story for you", just thought it dragged a lil. its not your typical batman or one we're use to seeing, so for those that didnt like it so much, i say watch it again. it might turn out be one that grows on you. cheers!

I just bought and watched it yesterday here's my review:
With The Dark Knight only one week away, fans got something new a week early with the release of Batman: Gotham Knight, with 6 interlocking stories with different directors and animation styles, a concept very similar to the Animatrix. So does it deliver?
In this Batfan's eyes, it definetly delivers. The animation is spectacular, the stories gave me goosebumps, and of course Kevin Conroy never disappoints when playing the Dark Knight.
HAVE I GOT A STORY FOR YOU A very interesting story just like the TNBA episode Legends of the Dark Knight. It was interesting to see how these kids saw Batman in their eyes, whether it be a living shadow, a Man-Bat type creature, or a robot, even though they kind of blow it out of proportion a bit, especially with the crook having a laser gun. But in the finale, the way Batman actually looks is kind of like someone beat up the Bruce Timm style Batman and fed him a bunch of twinkies. Still a good story though.
CROSS FIRE In this story, we learn that the Narrows from Batman Begins is totally lost, saying the whole island is Asylum territory now. The conversation with Ramirez and Allen about Batman were good, and so was the gun fight between Maroni and the Russian. Batman's look is one of the best out the whole stories.
FIELD TEST What I loved about this story was the art design. I know some people feel like Kevin Conroy's voice didn't fit with this story, believe me I didn't think that at first either, but when it's Kevin Conroy as Batman, any animation style will work. I especially loved the part where he drove the crook to the hospital, but the crook pulled out a gun and then the police pulled out theirs and Batman just yells out "NOBODY'S SHOOTING ANYONE!" The ending line of the story is classic Batman too.
IN DARKNESS DWELLS With David Goyer, the writer of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, working on this one, you know it's gonna be a good story. We learn about what Crane's done since the night in the Narrows, and that Killer Croc was really a patient in Arkham and was part of Crane's experiments, with his fear being bats. Not good for Batman is it? With this story, it made me feel what Killer Croc could work in Nolan's realistic movie world, especially since Goyer wrote this. My only gripe was that there wasn't a real fight with Batman and Scarecrow, and even though Crane's insane, I don't understand why he kidnapped that cardinal. Either way, this was the best story of the whole movie.
WORK THROUGH PAIN I felt like this was the weakest of the 6 stories. While it was nice learning more about Bruce's travels during the 7 years he was gone, the story while he was Batman wasn't given that much. Was that guy he was following infected with Crane's fear gas or what? And just where the hell did all those guns come from?
DEADSHOT This was a good one, but I really though that this would be the best story out of the movie, but it just didn't deliver like I though it would. The best part of it was the fight on the train with Batman and Deadshot, especially when Deadshot starts beggin him not to kill him. You know you're doing your job when you make an assassin start crying.
Overall: Whether they love the animation or the stories, Batman fans will definitely be happy with the end result, and hopefully it can tide them over until The Dark Knight next week.
8.5/10
The special feature on the second disc are good too, especially with the look at Batman's villains and the 4 bonus episodes of the Animated Series.

I really enjoyed this movie. A great movie, and a great dvd overall.
The movie overall I really enjoyed. I actually don't see why people didn't like "Have I Got A Story for You". Yeah it was ripped off a TNBA ep, but still it was different enough were it was still really enjoyable. The ending was really superb. And I really liked the part of the story of the kid who thought Batman was a robot. I really want a robot Batman action figure now.
"Cross Fire" was an excellent way to show how Batman can get it done. Really loved the inclusion of Maroni.
"Field Test" was good in the fact that we never really have seen Batman test pilot anything. This showed also a big part of who Batman is, '' I'm willing to put my life on the line... but it has to be mine, no one else's". Why Batman stole the Green Ranger's shield though, thats another question.
"In Darkness Dwells" was easily one of the most action packed parts of the movie. It was cool to see Batman hanging upside down when talking to Gordon. Cool to see Killer Croc.
"Work Through The Pain" greatly shed some light on how Batman trained to be Batman. A war surgeon in India. Then training with Cassandra. The ending were he found all the guns was really gripping to me. The appearance of the Tim Burton batmobile was freaking awesome to.
"Deadshot", easily the best of the movie. Although I didn't like how Deadshot wussed out at the end. Bruce describing his feelings on guns was one of the best parts of dialog in the movie.
Overall I really enjoyed it. It was really easy for me to see how all the shorts were part of a larger whole. I'm not an anime fan but it was nice to see something different. And I'm a complete Batman mark so anything Batman is good.
Also, the dvd as a whole was great. I got the Target single exclusive, so watching the first two Batman Beyond eps was good. The very first scene of ''Rebirth" really got me. My only thing though is Batman has been in excruciating pain more times to count and yet he has never reached for a gun. Just didn't make sense to me. And then the Wonder Woman preview was really awesome. Does it seem like the producers and writers kinda make alot of happy hype in these DCU previews. They just seem to happy in a way. Is it just me or does Steve Trevor kinda look like a blond Bruce Wayne from THE BATMAN ? Hoping somehow, someway Mattel releases a line of toys for this. Then the trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT was just icing on the cake. DrGreenEvil

I agree the dvd was not that great. The guy from the Justice League: New Frontier should have done the voice for the Bat. I was not crazy about the dvd found myself fast forwarding through large part of it. Thumbs down.

Man, I'm torn - I really want to get this DVD, but having seen 'Field Test', I'm not that impressed (in traditional anime style, Bruce looks like he's either 12 or very effeminate). I guess I should just bite the bullet and make the purchase and see the rest for myself.

The guy from the Justice League: New Frontier should have done the voice for the Bat. That guy sucked as Batman. A note to DC: whenever you have a Batman centered DTV, always get Kevin Conroy to voice him. It just makes it even better.

The special feature on the second disc are good too, especially with the look at Batman's villains and the 4 bonus episodes of the Animated Series. I bought the single DVD from Target, with the first two episodes of Batman Beyond (which I naturally already own). Question: what are the 4 bonus Animated Series episodes on the second disc of the two-disc version?

I rented the movie from REDBOX and I enjoyed it. The animation was slick, although I failed to see how the movie ties the two live actions together. And the Wonder Woman animated movie that was advertised in the special features looks like it will be worth the watch.

The animation was slick, although I failed to see how the movie ties the two live actions together. Let me help you with that: 1. The female detective in Crossfire, Ana Ramirez, is a character in The Dark Knight. 2. They reference the Narrows in Crossfire, saying that the whole island is Asylum territory now. 3. They reference that Scarecrow has been loose ever since the night in the Narrorws in In Darkness Dwells.

I got that much, but it still seemed more B:TAS contunuation than a Batman Begins "tie-in" I still give the movie 5 out of 5 Batarangs.
