I was wondering how it made out, that's great! I loved the movie and I think it's going to appeal to Batfans as well as regular movie goers. That's how it will make it to the top of the pile. I am going to see it again this week. I want to see it on Imax next week too

I thinks its awesome. It would be pretty nifty if Batman held the top grosser in history for a while. I think its especially neat after hearing Stan Lee's comments about Bob Kane and their characters movies on the Gotham Knights dvd.

Yes! Thanks for the news Matt. I saw this on Television but I didn't know if it beat Spider-Man 3's Opening Weekend Record! Guess it did! Rock on!!
Matt, you missed a record, it beat StarWars III's midnight showing record of $16.9 million. The Dark Knight made over $20 Million in the midnight showing!
I hope TDK keeps going and beats a lot more records including the #1 box office earnings of all time!

Went to go see it again tonight but it was sold out, the parking lot was full and there was a line up for the later show. With all the buzz for DK this week it feels like the summer of '89 all over again!

One thing he said was that he wished Bob was still alive when Spider-Man came out so they could compare that and Batman 89.

Well, I think that this is really great news.
I don't think it is a stretch by any means to say that the Marvel movies have had a lot of recent success. D.C. hasn't made nearly as many superhero films recently compared to Marvel, and X-Men and Spiderman alone have had a combined 6 (arguably) successful films.
For Warner/D.C. to add The Dark Knight to their list of films & see the movie make back its estimated budget on opening weekend alone is absolutely superb. I really look forward to seeing how much this movie rakes in over the next few weeks as well as how well the eventual home movie sales do.
The recent success of this Batman movie might help peak the interest for future D.C. movies. We already know of a few that are on the way. Perhaps allocated budget and green lights will come a bit easier now that WB knows they can really make these things successful with the right people.
Granted...The Dark Knight *does* have that "Batman coolness factor" you cannot deny. Being Batman alone helps gather a good starter crowd for a new movie.

couldn't be more proud. i've been telling everyone how this film is just going to smash every record in its way. once again, Batman is at the top of his game, and deservedly so.... kudos to Chris Nolan & of course, Mr. Bale (who i feel isn't getting much attention for taking the Bat's cowl again...) even though all the hoopla is on the late Mr. Ledger, (he really deserves it though), still, if it wasn't for Christian, Batman wouldn't gain back the respectability and the seriousness of the mythos..
Thank you Bale.

everyone's just telling me about it. they keep telling me "congratulations" or "great job" even though i had absolutely nothing to do with the film. it's just being the big Batman fan that i am that gets all these kudos i guess. everyone just can not stop gushing about this masterpiece of modern film-making.

from superherohype Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight broke another record on Tuesday becoming the fastest ever to cross the $200 million mark in five days! The previous record of eight days was held by three films - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Spider-Man 2 and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins follow-up added $20.87 million on Tuesday to push its massive total to $203.8 million. That puts it at #84 already on the all-time domestic blockbuster list after just five days. Right now, the only number we have for international markets is $41.3 million but that will start going up significantly as the movie is opening in many countries Thursday and Friday as well as into August. So let's recap - widest release (4,366 theaters), biggest opening weekend ($158.4M), biggest July opener ($158.4M), biggest PG-13 rated opening ($158.4M), biggest single day ($67.2M), biggest opening day ($67.2M), biggest Friday ($67.2M), biggest Sunday ($43.6M) and fastest to $200M in five days ($203.8M). www.superherohype.com/news/batmannews.php?id=7524

When it broke Spider-man 3's weekend record a site reported that SM3 actually sold 20,000 more tickets over the three day period... I kow that the ticket prices were the same so I am going to hypothesize that the difference in $$$$ was children's vs. adult tickets.
Pretty impressive that Bat's has been the choice of film goers and not an afternoon babysitter if that is the case.

I saw the movie last night...wow...just WOW! It was spectacular! Amazing writing and amazing acting! Heath's Joker was totally awsome, Two-Face's both look and origin were great! I also had some fun by going with a Joker costume and leaving a Joker card with the money for the tickets! Made a little cake to share with my fellow nerds (bro, sis and cousin) after the movie. Even my brother (who was disappointed in Begins) said "Ok, I was wrong, This movie is awsome!"

From Yahoo Movie News:
"Dark Knight" overshadows box office rivals again Sunday July 27 1:32 PM ET
Batman buried his rivals at the North American box office for a second weekend on Sunday, racing past $300 million in a record 10 days.
The Caped Crusader's blockbuster outing, "The Dark Knight," sold an estimated $75.6 million worth of tickets during the three days beginning Friday, taking its total to $314.2 million, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said.
A week after it scored a record-breaking $158 million opening, "The Dark Knight" added a new title to its impressive list of superlatives: the best second weekend, surpassing the holiday-boosted $72 million haul of 2004's "Shrek 2."
The $180 million movie, which stars Christian Bale as Batman and late actor Heath Ledger as the anarchic Joker, has reportedly been drawing strong repeat business, and also has piqued the interest of people who avoid superhero flicks or rarely go to the movies at all.
"The Dark Knight" now ranks as the second-biggest movie of the year, just behind the $315 million haul of "Iron Man," and the 23rd-biggest of all time.
The previous speed record for a $300 million film was 16 days set by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in 2006. The next target is $400 million, which took "Shrek 2" 43 days to reach. Warner Bros. distribution president Dan Fellman predicted "The Dark Knight" would take just 18 days to reach that milestone.
"Where we go from there, it's uncharted waters," Fellman said.
The last movie to break $400 million was the 2006 "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, which ranks No. 6 on the all-time list with $423 million. The 1997 epic "Titanic" leads the field with $601 million.
