Was the 60's Batman series meant to be cheesy, or they just had an extremely low budget and it seemed cheesy?

[shadow=red,left,300]In an odd way, it was supposed to be cheesy! ABC executives Harve Bennett and Edgar Scherick,suggested a prime time Batman series in the hip style of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." Lorenzo Semple Jr. had signed on as head script writer. He wrote the pilot script, and generally kept his scripts more on the side of pop art adventure. Stanley Ralph Ross, Stanford Sherman, and Charles Hoffman were script writers who generally leaned more toward camp comedy and just plain stupidity.  And they say I don't research my posts!
