Good one-shot story. Very reminiscent of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Inner Light."
In that episode an inhabitant of a doomed planet sends a "message in a bottle" probe to space that links itself to Captain Picard. During the link Picard experiences many years in this civilization as they make sure that their experiences do not go to the grave with them. I don't believe it was ever stated how long it took for the probe to find the Enterprise though.
Though reading the first couple of pages had me worried that it would be a different story entirely! I mean for a while I thought it was going to be a what if story, what if Kal-El was found by the Waynes instead of the Kents! That would be an interesting tale actually. Whether Bruce was born or not.
Anyway, it is a good read.
