According to Michael Caine, the villains for the next movie are indeed Riddler (one that was hinted on earlier) and Penguin. Johnny Depp was already the likely candidate among fans, and though I'm not sure they're 100% cast in (especially this early in development), Caine is reporting that Nolan has his eyes on Depp and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin!
I personally think both are amazing actors. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was brilliant in Mission Impossible 3 and Johnny in so many movies. What are your opinions?

you could have said this in one of the 5 topics about the next villain. I really hope the Penguin is just sort of a nickname, and not like a Danny DeVito styled one, because that would destroy Nolan's "real world" atmosphere.

Hoffman has said he's not interested and he'd like to see someone else play Penguin: Click

The Next Film Wont Be As Good As The Dark Knight. Nothing Can Top That.

I really dont get the fan-wagon clammoring for Hoffman. He doesnt do anything for me personally in general, let alone as the Penguin. Im sure he could do fine and they could cast worse, but IMO they could do far better too. I always liked the idea of Bob Hoskins years ago myself.

I think they all like him, because there are only so many overweight actors out there to choose from, lol. I'd rather they just left Penguin out of the entire franchise, honestly. There are many better villains to touch on, imo. And can we get a link to Caine saying this about Riddler and Penguin?

Depp, in a recent radio interview said he hasn't been asked to play the riddler, but added 'it would be a fun gig'.

No one has been asked to do anything as of yet gang. There is no script, no deal and no movie right now. Nolan hasn't even begun work on this..so anything we hear is fan rumors and possible studio desires, which don't mean much at this stage of development. Nothing you hear until at least 2009 will be worth listening to.
