[shadow=red,left,300]I am surprised no one started a forum on this! [/shadow] (From Superhro hype) It was almost a year ago it was announced that Greg Berlanti was set to direct the live-action take on DC Comics' Green Lantern, which he would write with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Now, Guggenheim has given ComicCon.com an update: "I've been working my butt off on Green Lantern," he said, then laughed. "I'm ready for a weekend off. I really can't say too much about it. I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy. I will tell you it features Hal Jordan and is an incredibly faithful rendition of the character. It honors everything everyone loves about the hero. We approach it from a fan's perspective. Every step of the way, we ask ourselves what we want to see and what the fans will want to see. I think we have a script that will actually satisfy on those levels. Right now I'm just doing a rewrite for the studio with Greg [Berlanti] and Michael [Green]. We'll turn that in next week. We just keep moving forward. It's really good stuff!" (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=7661 )[shadow=red,left,300]I would also like to add that movie web has posted concept art and you can find more of them here:http://www.movieweb.com/gallery/PGyRLzyGIL45CBI think this is very promising. What are your opinions? Do you think they should make a a movie on the Green Lantern? Who would you like to see in it? The floor is yours! [/shadow]

I am very excited for a Green Lantern movie, and I am happy they are going with Hal Jordan as the GL. I was a bit worried thinking they might use John Stewart or Kyle Rayner.
Although it would be cool to see John Stewart in the film, perhaps they can use him like they used Rhodes in the Iron Man movie.
So who are you hoping they use for a villian? Sinestro? Mongul?
I can see Sinestro as the main villian.
What about actors to play Hal Jordan?
I really wanted David Boreanez (spelling) for Batman in a Justice League movie, but I don't really see that happening, so I would say he could possibly pull off playing a great Hal Jordan

[shadow=red,left,300]Great to see that there is someone else who is excited for it as I am!
I think Sinestro would make a great main villain David Boreanaz could play Hal Jordan in a live action movie easily. But I don't know, There are several others that could do a great job!
It would be very hard to choose! [/shadow]

I'm really excited about a GL movie. I hope it is actually made. The way Wonder Woman has been pushed back repeatedly has shaken my confidence in new DC movies. That said, a GL movie would probably be the most visually appealing of all the superhero movies. I think it will be a blast.
On another note, there is a question I have been wondering for a while. Why do people love Hal Jordan so much? I do not have enough experience with the character to understand why he is so popular. I like Kyle, John, and Guy, but I don't understand what is so special about Hal. Can someone please answer my question?

I think that it comes down to him being the first Green Lantern, and who the majority of the people would recognize as Green Lantern. I guess its the same way people always relate to Dick Grayson as Robin, even though he hasn't been Robin in like what, 20+ years, they always keep using Dick Grayson in the cartoons.
But also reading what Hal has gone through, bascially the man has gone through hell and back, saw his city destroyed, became evil as Parrallyx (spelling) but being the true hero that he is, found his way back. There is something gritty and honorable about Hal, he is just way cool

Another actor that I think would be perfect for Hal Jordan is Burn Notice's Jeffrey Donovan

^ I wouldnt want Hal to be in it. Personally, I think John Stewart is the most famous of all of the Lanterns and my favorite as well. I'd lke to see him be in it, perhaps have someone such as Samuel L. Jackson play him? lol

Kyle went through the exact same stuff as Hal with Parallax, only Kyle was a whole lot more powerful when it happened to him. i'm not a big Hal Jordan fan. i prefer Kyle Rayner. i think people like Hal because he "has no fear" and whatnot. i dont see the big deal about the character and really dont find him too special.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one that is not really a Hal Jordan fan. I remember Bruce Timm wasn't really a fan, though that was not the sole reason John Stewart was chosen. I still don't understand Hal's appeal. I like Kyle because he has to struggle initially as a GL because he was not really chosen to be one but rather fell into it. I like Guy because he is not your conventional superhero. And John I like pretty much because of JL and JLU where they really fleshed out his character. But Hal... has no fear and that is it from what I can tell. While it makes him a good hero, it does not make him an interesting character. If anybody else has anything to add on Hal Jordan, I am willing to change my assessment of the character if I were to understand his popularity.

I wasn't all that into Hal myself until I read "Green Lantern:Emerald Dawn". I like all of the Green Lanterns of Earth. Guy has his attitude, (Guy mooning the Bat outside the Watchtower is classic!)Kyle has youth and a good imagination for some good light based weapons, John is more of a no-nonsense GL (he was a U.S. Marine, after all) Hal does what it takes to get the job done. I think the reason Hal is chosen for the movie, is that Hal Jordan was the Green Lantern that most of us grew up with. By contrast, my 8 year old son identifies with John Stewart(Thanks to the Bruce Timm cartoons). If the movie does well, maybe they'll introduce the other Lanterns from Sector 2814. I wonder, will Kilowog be CGI?

[shadow=red,left,300]I agree with batman1973. We all grew up with Jordan so most of us are used to him. But on the other hand I do like Kyle Raynder and John Stewart!
But I have one question. Timm said he liked John Stewart the most, but yet he gave Stewart Jordan's origin! If he liked Stewart so much why didn't he use Stewart's original origin?
Sorry if my question offends anybody. I just find it unfair for both characters. And I am sorry for going a little bit of topic.[/shadow]

[shadow=red,left,300]Timm said he liked John Stewart the most, but yet he gave Stewart Jordan's origin! If he liked Stewart so much why didn't he use Stewart's original origin? [/shadow] Actually, you misread my comment. He never said that he liked John Stewart the most. If so, then John would have been used in STAS instead of Kyle. Timm did not care for Hal. When the JL lineup was introduced, many fans were mad at the selection. They said that either they should go with Hal because he was the GL that was there when league was created in the comics or that they should have went with Kyle because he had been established in STAS. I remember reading that Timm chose John because he added diversity to the team (which is a good thing considering how times have changed since the comics were originally written), that he had more room to work with because he was less established, and that he did not care for Hal. Forgive me if any of the following information is inaccurate. It has been a long time since I read this. So that is why John got a slightly modified version of Hal's back story. It is the same reason that Tim Drake got Jason Todd's origin. You have to pull the best stories to make the best character.

I really liked it. To me, you really don't like the character all that much if you are pulling different stories together. The way I see it, it is a big slap in the face for the person who created the character. [/shadow]

^That is a valid opinion as far as origin's go. However, people tend to put their own spin on things. The John Stewart of JL was not the John Stewart of the comics. I don't mind that the two are different, though I know some people do. To each his own.

From the comics to the super friends, to action figures

The concept art looks like Kurt Russell. Also a lot of outer space stuff. Could it be a fend off alien invasion storyline?

What I'd like to see is a series of Green Lantern movies that starts with Alan Scott carving his ring and power battery out of Starheart and includes Abin Sur crashing to Earth and selecting Hal Jordan to replace him, Guy Gardner and John Stewart replacing him, Hal being possesed by Parallax after the destruction of Coast City and destroying the Green Lantern Corps then sacrificing himself reigniting the sun, Hal being sprung from Purgatory to be the Spectre's new host, Ganthet recruiting Kyle Rayner, the events of Green Lantern Rebirth and Green Lantern Corps Recharge, Hal Jordan and John Stewart being partners in sector 2814, while Guy and Kyle become partners in the Honor Guard.
As for villains, why not include the main GL villains- Doctor Polaris, Evil Star, Black Hand, Sonar, Effigy, Fatality, Nero, The Manhunters, and of course Sinestro.
I don't know of many actors so I wouldn't know who to cast but I'd really like to see a series touch on all the Lanterns.

This project has been moving forward quite a bit. Here is a link I found on thegreenlanterncorps.com to the latest trailer. movies.yahoo.com/premieres/12844529/This movie looks incredible. I'm kind of wishing this style were utilized more. It is the first really good mix between American art style and anime. I hope you all enjoy.

[shadow=red,left,300]I added a poll to help generate a conversation, It's a list of actors who are rumored for the part. Maybe one of them or none of them will be the next Green Lantern, we can only wait and see! Just to add, I might have spelled a name or two wrong. My Mistake![/shadow] [shadow=red,left,300]P.S: [/shadow] popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/04/green-lantern.html [shadow=red,left,300]Opinions?[/shadow]

I just realized I forgot to add a few names to the poll. I wish I could edit it! But I don't think I will worry about it! You can just vote "none of these people!"[/shadow]
