This debate has been going on forever and now with the newly released Classictvtoys reissues it is sure to resurface. Personally I feel that in this instance regarding CTVT's that it helps the mego hobby a great deal by receiving press along with drawing in some new blood into the hobby. Although some worry that reissues will hurt the market I really dont see that happening although it could if certain precautions arent taken. The good Doctor ( Dr mego ) is very careful to mark all of his reproductions with a " DM " which is extremely beneficial to all. Also, customizers can experiment with reproductions rather than with original pieces. What are your thoughts on this very contraversial subject?

I think it really depends on what you want out of it. If you're looking for an authentic collectible, go with the originals. If you'd rather have something that's more like a novelty, or something you wouldn't mind messing around with, go the reproduction route.
Then there's always the dollars and cents aspect ...

This is a very interesting discussion. I am a HUGE Captain Action fan. When I was young I went through two of the figures, and had several of the outfit sets. Over the years, the figures were broken or lost, and originals sell for over $100 bucks on Ebay. When Playing Mantis came out with their great repos of the Cap, Action Boy and Dr. Evil, I was all over it! These were and are imaculate reproductions of the originals, even down to the accessories. And you can't beat the price! I have seen other repros of other great toys from the past that were super, and some that were repros only in name. I say if the repro is as nice as the original, and you can buy it for half the price (or less) then go for it!

It's the same sort of thing for sports fans: You can buy a replica throwback jersey for a fraction of the cost of a vintage, game-worn jersey. It's all a matter of what you want out of the item.

Repros are fine by me as long as they fit the figure just like the original did. Making repros a different size just to make sure that they're not confused with the original is just silly IMO. The reason I want repro parts is to mimic the original, not to stand out and shout "Not Authentic!"

Repro's are great, providing some-one doesn't try to pass it off as an original. When I was heavy into Transformers, most Transfans supported good, quality repro labels to make thier TF's look new.

Yes, like it says ^, it depends on what you want out of it. My grandmother in New Jersey has the entire set of original DC Megos, and keeps them in a windowed-cabinet; they are the original ones, and would be best for display. With reproductions, you can take them out of the box...Customize them...Whatever, and, if they somehow are destroyed/ ruined, you can replace them in a cost-effective manner, instead of having to pay hundreds on replacing an original. I love the originals, but, I'm a hands-on kind of guy, and prefer re-issues for certain items...

Thanks for in-advertantly giving me the picture that I've been looking for [for] several years! ;D I have two of those Batmobiles in my collection, but, they are very damaged as they've seen more moves throughout the years than I'd care to remember/ imagine...
