When, and why did the madness start?  Well, okay, I'm sure I know WHY it happened, popularity of character means more figures of Batman, even if he never wore the suit that he has on in the figure ever on a TV show, movie or the comics. But still, when did it happen, and why were there no complaints about all the non-canonical outfits Batman figures were showing up with?

I guess its just a hugely kept secret of boys...
Girls like having different outfits for their dolls. I guess even boys like having their Batman in different outfits. Cause if you think about it, boys want the different Batman for the same reason girls want the different Barbie. They more want the outfit. Where girls scream their doll needs a new prom dress. Boys screen that their Batman needs an outfit for adventures in the snow or in the water.
But even Back in the day I never really went in for the different outfits. I liked the weapons. But never really played with the variants.
