Ok, I know I'm more of a DC person, but I grew up reading Marvel books as well. I'm very unbiased to ANY good super hero genre film.
That being said, I watched Daredevil and Ghost Rider for the first time this weekend. I know, I'm behind..but regardless, they both sucked. I mean bad. I was very disappointed in Ghost Rider especially, which just ended up boring me to tears. Perhaps quality films like X-Men I & II (NOT 3), Dark Knight and Spiderman have really spoiled me.
Your thoughts? Am I alone in thinking that super hero films deserve less camp and more quality, ala Dark Knight?

No you're not! MARVEL releases lots of live action and animated movies and 2/3 of them suck! From the animated - Ultimate Avengers 1, 2 and Dr. Strange were watchable. But Iron Man and Next Avengers sucked so badly. As for the live-action ones - Spider-Man 2, Punisher (Tom Jane) and Iron Man were the best for me. The Hulk movies and SM 1 ain't bad either. But looking at others (Elektra) they could've had much better threatment. Marvel should concentrate on less, but better.

Now see, Iron Man..that was a fantastic film. I would go as far as to say that its Marvel's Dark Knight in the way of quality film making. If they can start to replicate that formula, they can really turn things around. Likewise, I hope that WB begins to move towards making all of their genre films at a higher quality now that they've seen what power the characters and the stories actually have with audiences.

i loved Daredevil. the only problem i had with that film was that Kingpin was not caucasian. had he been it'd be the best comic movie ever. Ben Affleck was great as Daredevil, Colin Farrell was great as Bullseye, Jennifer Garner was great as Elektra (which led to a movie that basically everyone but me hated), even Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson was a great choice. they used a director who actually knew the characters and was a huge fan of the characters and actually knew the comics in Kevin Smith. but i do agree about Ghost Rider being bad though.

I wouldn't say that Daredevil was horrible. I liked it for what it was, a non-headliner superhero getting his first shot at a movie. The tone of the film was good, the story was a bit weak, the acting was hit and miss. Ben Affleck was a decent Daredevil, but I didn't think he did a good job at the alter ego, of which I have forgotten his name. Anyway, Bullseye was awesome. When I first saw the movie, I was put off by Kingpin. Now, I'm thinking that it is not that big of a change and he did do a pretty good job with the role. Who else is built like Kingpin? Not many people I can think of.
I usually go by other people's reactions as far as comic book movies. I still haven't seen Spiderman III or X-men III. I've been wanting to see The Incredible Hulk. Ironman was quite good.

^ that is true about Kingpin. there arent many actors that fit his body type. they would've had to get a wrestler or mma fighter and that would've sacrificed acting and probaly would have been worse. Matt Murdock is the alter ego you're looking for.
Iron Man was good, the new Hulk was real good. all 3 Blade movies were great. both Punisher movies so far were horrendous and Punisher: War Zone looks like it'll be just as bad as the other 3. the first Fantastic Four movie wasnt good, but i loved the second one. the frst and third X-Men movies were bad, but the second one was real good. i didnt like any of the Spider-Man movies.
its about half of the Marvel movies are good and worth seeing while the other half arent too great. thats a better ratio than DC has with their movies.

Marvel movies are good most of the time. As for Daredevil, I liked it. And Ghost Rider, I thought it was good, but Nic Cage was NOT the right choice. I don't know how old Johnny was supposed to be in the movie, but Cage looked way older than that. I like most Marvel movies like The Punisher, X-Men, and the first two Spider-Mans. But ones I didn't like were the first Hulk by Ang Lee, and I was really disappointed by Spider-Man 3. I was so hyped for it when it came out, only to have it just be a romance movie with Spider-Man characters. I think Marvel's going in the right direction with Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, and hopefully the movies continue to be good with Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers all coming soon.
But nothing can beat the awesomness of The Dark Knight!

They all pretty much sink. Spiderman has been the best one ive seen. aparentelly everyone likes Iron Man but i didnt, I wasted 80 pesos (mexican coin) on it. I havent seen Daredevil or X-men. I think the best movie based mostly on Marvel was "Superhero the Movie" starring Drake Bell.

While I consider X-Men II and Iron Man to be Marvels best, Ive found most their other efforts ok or at least watchable and mildly entertaining. For film, Marvel has maintained a standard of "mediocrity". Ghost Rider, X-Men III and the Fantastic Four movies for example. I wouldnt call any of them "GOOD" movies by any stretch. I think Im an odd man out because I honestly really like Daredevil and think they did just as good a job bringing that character to the screen as they had Spiderman (minor flaws aside). I just dont understand the DD movie hate nor do I understand all the Spiderman II love? Im also surprised by peoples bashing of the first Hulk and or how some can hate the first Fantastic Four but love the 2nd!? I thought they did a bang up job with the first Spiderman but its luster has worn off over time and I dont consider it quite as "great" now. I think time will also tell on Spidey 2 and the new Hulk... I doubt we'll think so highly of them in years to come. I think animation is where Marvel has royally dropped the ball. Virtually all their animated offerings have been disappointing in various degrees. Lots of wasted potential on that front. I think if DC/WB were to match Marvels quantity, they would likely match them in quality as well. I just wish DC would start taking some risks and showing more faith in their properties. I also pray marvel doesnt screw up the Capt. America movie. Mediocre wont be acceptable IMO.

I've always thought of it this way...
Marvel has the monopoly on movies. They have made more of the best ones. But DC has the monopoly on television. The recent cartoons (THE BATMAN & BTBTB, etc), and Smaillville.
But thats starting to flip some. The Dark Knight became the greatest superhero film ever. And Marvels offerings of "Wolverine and the Xmen" and others in production makes me angry I don't get nicktoons .
And I really liked Daredevil. (That might be due to my visually impaired self and the memories attached to that movie for me.) Also really liked X3. Haven't seen Iron Man yet but I have borrowed the dvd and it will happen sooner than later.

Marvel movies are fantastic. i hate to side with the competition, but I absolutely loved Iron Man. It was nowhere near TDK, but it was brilliant.
I have to say I was much more of a Marvel guy before Batman Begins. I was personally fond of the Spider-Man films. Sure they killed it with SM3, but the first two were fantastic.
you guys shouldn't be too quick to diss the Marvel films. I can think of a few failed DC films as well.

[shadow=red,left,300] ^ I agree.
DC has created some really bad movies! And they are worse then anything Marvel has thrown out. But that would be very rude to mention any names, *Cough Schumacher Cough*
I think some of Marvel's recent films have been fantastic. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were above exceptional.
I personally think that Sam Raimi should take the hint and darken Spider-man and hopefully save the franchise before it bombs![/shadow]

I agree Spiderman 3 was to cartoony. They need to go back and watch the first one again and go from there.

I like to think that Marvel will learn from Ghost rider and Spiderman 3 and wont make the same mistake again. So far i think they are doing pretty good.
