Lets keep all Oscar related talk here to cut down on multiple threads!
I'll start with this news from SuperHero Hype
The Producers Nominate The Dark Knight! Source:The Producers Guild of America January 5, 2009
Things are looking good for The Dark Knight's possible Best Picture nomination at the Oscars as The Producers Guild of America has just nominated the movie for its annual Producers Guild Awards taking place Saturday, January 24 at the Hollywood Palladium. The Dark Knight is going up against The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire for Best Picture.
The Screen Actors Guild previously nominated Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor and The Dark Knight for Best Stunt Ensemble. That awards ceremony takes place on Jan. 25.
This Wednesday, the Writers Guild of America will announce its nominees, while the Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 22.

Sweet! But if I know the Oscar judges, we'd probably lose to a "real" film. Have good faith in Ledger though.

I actually think Ledger will get it, but let's be serious, does The Dark Knight deserve to WIN Best Picture? It certainly deserves to be nominated, and Chris Nolan should definitely get an oscar nomination for directing, but there were better movies that came out this year that will probably win. It's probably between Milk and Frost/Nixon. I would love to see The Dar Knight win, but, as a film maker, the movie definitely has its flaws. While it's my personal favorite movie of 2008, it's probably not the very best movie of 2008, and I think the academy knows that as well.

Yeah, if anything, Heath Ledger needs to get an award. I hope it wins in all areas mentioned by Matt and some! Maybe The People's Choice Award's knocked some sense into them, told them that this really is a good movie that the People like. That it should not be judged just by its genre, but on actual quality!

Oscar judges would not be influenced by the People's Choice Awards. Honestly, a panel of judges is a better system for determining the quality of a movie. A big part of why TDK did well a the PCA was because so many people had seen it. TDK is a great movie and I love it, but there are probably more technical aspects that there are done better in other movies. For me, TDK is king of the superhero movies. How it does against films outside of the comic book realm will be interesting to see.

Kevin Smith called it "The Godfather II of superhero movies", and while it is just that when compared to super hero movies, if it were to actually be compared to Godfather Part II, it wouldn't win. It's a great superhero movie and really good movie, but it's not the best movie ever made and i highly doubt it will win best picture.
