For 1989 .. Batman was pretty dark for me. Considering the only other Batman we were able to base campiness off of was the 66 Batman.
Twenty Years from now will we be thinking that Batman Begins is too campy?!

Twenty Years from now will we be thinking that Batman Begins is too campy?! Well back in the 80's The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One and The Killing Joke were published and I consider all three books to be dark but Batman '89 didn't draw any inspiration from those books huh?

It isn't campy, but Nicholson brings too much of a lightheartedness and less serious nature. Keaton was on his game. Had Heath been in this movie it'd be a whole different game.

[shadow=red,left,300]Batman 1989 was now where near campy!
The filmmakers managed to create a dark and frighting Gotham, with a huge budget of $30 million to $48 million. The production designers found themselves creating most of Gotham city including the 38 foot model of the Cathedral with an estimated cost of $100 000.
That and the film uses several different controversial themes to show that it is no where near Adam West version of Batman! Such as Insanity, Vigilantism (a theme in almost every version of Batman!) and Totalitarianism (used to show how Batman's actions lead to the creation of the murderous Joker.)
This film also depicts the Characters much darker then the comic books. For example, Batman in this film kills, and we all know he doesn't.
The way I see it, calling this film campy is an insult to what Tim Burton created.[/shadow]

No, not at all is 1989 "campy". If any of the big budget movies is to fit into the definition of "camp", it would be Batman and Robin.

Batman 1989 campy? Oh please. It was actually pretty dark, considering the only other TV/movie Batman was the corny Adam Wests' Batsy, like the above said. Now some may believe it's campy, but I still believe it to be a bit dark. Sure it isnt as dark as BB or TDK, but I try not to compare Nolan and Burton because they're totally different.

So if a movie doesn't contain 'Heath Ledger,' it isn't dark?! Man, now I remember why I left this place for a month

I wasn't talking to you, Doomsday, but the majority of the community in general. A lot of the Dark Knight's undeserved praze has automatically labled the classics with a bad name. That's my gripe.
