I just bought Catwoman and Robin from the Batman Returns action figure line off of eBay. My questions are, why was Robin included in the line of toys? Why wasn't Catwoman featured in the advertisements on the back of the cards? Thanks!

They were originally planning to have Robin in the film, but they scrapped the idea. But I guess they decided to put him in the toyline anyway.

There has always been speculation as to the reasoning behind the Returns Robin figure. The character was scrapped in both the Burton movies, but they always begin production on the toys way before the movie comes out. Supposedly, there was a quick sketch of what the Robin suit was going to look like, so Kenner went ahead and started on one. After the character was deleted from the movie Kenner figured it was too far done with the figure to completely stop production, also they were gearing up for the TAS line and figured they could use the same mold for that figure, which they did. However, as far as a head sculpt was concerned, since there was no actor playing the character they sculpted the head to resemble the current comic Robin, which was Tim Drake, with the flat top. The head for the TAS figured was the only thing that was actually sculpted new for that line. While there was no official "coloring" of the concept of the Returns Robin suit, they made it the darker green and red to try to fit into the motif of the film. There are actually afew similarities between the Burton Robin suit and the 89 movie suit. The locking buckle look, and a scalloped neck. While on the batsuit it was a part of the cowl, on the Robin suit it was sculpted onto the body armor. Just like the muscles. Take a closer look at the figure and you can see.
As for Catwoman being pictured, she is on some of the card backs.

From every news site I've looked on, Marlon Wayans would have played a Robin like character, a mechanic with a 'R' on his jumpsuit. That would have been bad.
