I just got the Batman R.I.P. graphic novel and started reading it. Right in the beginning Batman is talking to Joker and says something about his death? When did Joker die?

Joker never died. he got shot in the face by the first replacement Batman and it "changed him".

It's hard to explain. You'd have to read Batman #663 which is collected in the Batman & Son trade. All I know is that he now has a glasgow smile, slit his tongue to look like a serpent's, and wears a white buther like gown.

They may have been mental changes, and this one really shows. I think they reference to how Joker's been done over the years. When he first debuted he was a psychotic killer, then to meet CCA regulations he was toned down to a criminal with a prankster/clown motif until Denny O'Neil brought him back to his roots, and then Alan Moore took it up a notch with The Killing Joke. Now Morrison has brought us the new change in the Joker.

I prefer the Alan Moore and Denny O'neil versions.
Grant Morisson's version sucks

Yeah the Joker in Batman RIP is no good. I hope the next writers bring back a more classic joker.
