why doesnt mattel themselves, at like www.mattel.com make their figures available for online sales of course most people would prefer to buy them at the stores because of shipping, but this way all the figs could be available to EVERYONE mattel could even charge cheap shipping because they would be making more $ off the figs, without the middleman (tru, target, etc) for example the movie masters they could have the chase figures cost like 2.5 the regular price, like $25 or so and that would basically set the price on that item they could offer back figures until they run out i really wish they would do this in addition to store presence i really dont see why not *frowns* same goes for kenner/hasbro although the internet is more prominent now....

I read they were looking into selling DCUC on their site starting with series 9 I think. As for shipping they aren't going to eat any of that, because they don't make the shipping rates. They have contracts with UPS/FedEx/USPS which decide the rates they'll pay when they opened their accounts with them.

i only said that about the shipping because they'd be getting a higher profit on each figure sold without toys r us and whoever getting their share and the price being $12 for dcuc
or they can sell the figs cheaper like $9 with full shipping still
i really dont see why they dont do this, dont see 1 reason............besides it'd hurt store sales

I agree...it's such a pain in butt trying to find these figures and if they want to make the true fans happy they's come up with an easier way to make the figures available.

See, the thing with that is Mattel NEEDS those in-store contracts, because thats where the vast majority of their sales will always come from. If they start offering toys online and keeping collectors out of stores all together, then the retailers won't be pleased and they'll start to burn that bridge. Walmart likes us all trudging through their store at midnight trolling for figures, it gets us in the store.
A lot of the industry is politics, like any business. While I agree it'd be great to have the option of buying things online, that will likely always be limited to certain items. Now as collectors, we're already seeing them do a lot of online only toylines, IE: MOTUC. That line wouldn't exist at retail, but sells out online consistantly. If only DC/Batman had that kind of hardcore following. You'd think it does, right? Wrong. Sadly.

I love hunting for figures in the stores, but as a true fan and collector, I love to guarantee me getting my figures by ordering online. My only worry each time is the dreaded damaged in transit.

Well we wouldn't be asking for an online store if Mattel actually got the freaking figures into stores. I'm not disagreeing with you on that. I'd love to get them online, just because I actually dislike hunting for toys anymore, because I can never actually FIND them! Its absurd and its not just Mattel. Even when they DO get the toys on the shelf idiot scalpers or bandwagon fans scoop them up now.

I have personally seen scapers buy armloads of toys and when I strike up a conversation with them they indicate they're buying them to sell on-line or at comic shows for a drastic mark-up. I do enjoy "the hunt" but it is extremely frustrating not finding what I'm looking for...whether the store is sold out or it was never shipped to the store.
