I have a question for the group...how do you explain your passion for Batman and collecting to your wives and girlfriends? Do they ever get fed up with bringing home more stuff? Also, any tips or suggestions are welcome.

I did the right thing and married a woman that collects, as well. She's very supportive and wonderful about it. We have a great time junking at garage sales and flea markets and collecting together.

I've tried to explain the fascination I have with all things Batman and she doesn't always "get it." We also have fun going to tag sales...I guess I'll keep trying to explain it to her.

I also did the right thing and married a girl that collects. My advice is let her know early on, if she's cool then she will accept it. But remember it Goes both ways... You have to be cool with what she's into as well.

my wife knew from the moment that she first came to my apartment that i liked comics as i had posters and artwork up all over, but i only had a few things on display at that time. eventually she asked what was in all the boxes i had everywhere and i showed her. it wasnt until we moved in together that she really learned how much i collect. she's real suppostive though and she lets me have this office area of our home as just mine to what i want in. i chose to turn it into a giant display. she actually likes it now and seems proud to show the room to company. just make sure you give her an area of the house as hers. i let her decorate the entire rest of the house, so she leaves me alone with my stuff and my display. that seems to be key.

Collecting is one of the reasons I haven't had a girlfriend

Just like Matt, my wife is a collector too, and we are totally supportive of each other. It's a great situation to be in, especially since my first wife sounded like a broken record with her constant refrain of, "you don't really need that, do you?"
I hope they keep Hell hot just for her.

LMFAO batprofessor. Harsh..but funny. You know, I think having a mate that also collets is the best way to go. Its hard for 'normal' folks to understand us. My wife and I not only collect, but we collect together. Its actually a great bonding situation. We jointly collect DVD/Blu-Ray, CDs, Harry Potter, Nightmare Before Xmas, Pokemon, Halloween Merch., Misc. Movie Toy, etc, not to mention a lot of vintage goods. We have our own collections of Toy Story, Batman, TMNT, Ghostbusters, Jem, Other Pixar, X-Men etc. But we both enjoy each other's stuff. As long as we have free money, my wife is fully supportive of whatever I want. She's quite wonderful. Its fantastic being married to someone that is so much like you in the ways that most people wouldn't be able to tolerate, lol. Our house looks like a damn toy store..and guess what...most of what you see when you walk in is hers, not mine! lol. I mean this is our dining room

That's one dining room I wouldn't want to leave! I love Toy Story! My parents can't even understand my obsession with collecting (and I don't even collect half as much as you guys). Each week I pick a day and I go to all the local stores and second-hands that usually get good stuff. When I come back home with something my parents feel like strangeling me.

My wife gets home after I do, so she doesn't normally see the mail. I order online for the vast majority of my purchases. Plus, my collection is sequestered neatly away behind closed cabinet doors, so it isn't too glaringly obvious to whomever walks in.

I have a friend who has a secret credit card, and has the monthly bill and all of his collectibles sent to his mom's house. He's 52, and his wife is a humorless harpy. He has two kids and feels obligated to stick it out. Regardless, if I were him, I'd kick her to the curb faster than you could say "Batmobile."
If you're dating a girl that never "gets it," then she never will. Things will deteriorate even further after marriage, kids, mortgage, etc. Hopefully anyone reading this can learn from the mistakes of others.

I have my own room upstairs and she gets to do whatever with the rest of the house. As for the collection getting bigger? She just gets it. While she goes out and buys new clothes, I wear what I have had for years so I can get more Batman stuff. She has never said anything bad about it. If she had said something about it when we first starting dating we would have never gotten married. It is something I do for fun and leisure, take it away and I would be a completely different person. And Batfan93, my mom use to be the same way but I would always come back with the "I don't go out and spend my money getting drunk or doing crack, if you would rather I pick on of those as a hobby I'll get rid of the batman stuff." That gets her every time. BTW haven't lived with them for 12 years and still hear the same things.

Im fortunate to have a supportive wife. She's accepted my geek interests and has helped it grow over the years. My collection wouldnt be half what it is if not for her.

I just recently got a new girlfriend whose also a collector (Boyd's Bears and Ford Mustang die-cast). She helps me look for things (like the elusive White Coat Rex"The Doctor" Lewis from the 09 GI Joe film) She is the exact opposite of my ex wife who hated my collection.

Haha, well, let's just say I don't have this problem, because I'm gay, so, it's a lot easier for me. Guys tend to be a lot more understanding and stuff than women when it comes to collections/collecting, even if they don't collect, but like 90% of guys collect something.

My first wife thought it was stupid. She was shown the door, not for frowning on my collection, but for being a punchboard for the whole neighborhood. My second wife is not into collecting or cosplay, but she let's me do my own thing. As I usually dress up as Batman for birthday parties, fire department open houses, parades, and conventions, she knows I'm in this to put smiles on people's faces. Lately she has admitted to me that she's kinda proud of me, and has told friends she hasn't seen in a while she's married to Batman. She's kinda been Mary Jane to my Peter Parker with her "Go get 'em tiger" attitude.

My wife knew from the start I was a Batman fan and she supports me (even though she sometimes pretends the opposite). Even my mother-in-law buys batstuff for me. Moreover, I have an intense intellectual life and my wife knows that my Batman hobby helps me to cool down. My family is wonderful and a real support ... Thanks to them. Hope my boy will follow my lead when time will come.

Also, any tips or suggestions are welcome. To be honest, it wasn't that big of a deal at all. My wife doesn't collect, but she understand my passion for it, and is a fan of Batman. I think it's more about your spouse/girlfriend just appreciating that something is a part of your life and knowing it gives you joy. In short, the right woman will understand.
