Just watched my copy last night and than again today with some of my friends. Here is my take on it!
+ The script Judd Winick wrote was amazing! With spot on pacing and an intriguing story that condenses in a satisfying way, one of darkest and longer Batman story lines.
+ Brandon Vietti did an amazing job as the director. The action scenes were well done along with the brilliant dark and gritty atmosphere. I can't wait to see his work on Young Justice!
+ Bruce Greenwood did a fantastic job as the voice of the Batman. By the way, I have read a few reviews that keep comparing his voice to Conroy. Give the guy a break, Greenwood's performance should be judged on it's own and not compared to Conroy's. Not only do I find it unfair, but I also find it just plain stupid and pathetic as well!
+ I may not be a fan of Supernatural (I am more of a True Blood gal), but Jensen Ackles does a terrific job as the voice of the Red Hood. Very impressive for the guy's first time voicing a cartoon character.
+ Although I have read reviews complain that Neil Patrick Harris's voice was just Spider-Man and Flash all over again. I personally think that NPH did a terrific job!And frankly, this is the first non-comic book version of Nightwing that I actually liked!
- I didn't like the idea of taking Nightwing out so early? What was the point of bringing in the character, getting one of the biggest up and coming stars to voice him, then riping him out half way through the movie?
+ One of my favorite voices in the movie was Jason Isaacs as Ra's al Ghul. His voice sound just like the voice you hear when reading the comics!
+ But my favorite voice was The Jokers! At first I didn't like John Di Maggio voice. But after a while it grew on me and I just flat out loved it. It just seemed to emphasize the movie's dark and gritty tone!
+ The rest of the voice cast like Jim Paddock, Wade Williams, and Kelly Hu did a great job with the parts they had and I loved the Riddler cameo with Bruce Timm. It was a nice touch.
- I have a small complaint with the glaring pot holes. But that's just me being finicky.
- Could have used a little more blood in a few parts. Not much, just a little.
+ I will give the creators a point for no unnecessary swearing.
So for me this was the best DC Universe animated movie yet. But I don't think I would rate it higher than Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, but I would rate it just a tiny smidgen higher that Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
