Honestly, a part of me is happy Spider-man is getting a reboot and another part of me is very disappointed and annoyed.

[shadow=red,left,300]^ Sorry if I offend anyone, but the answer "To why reboot Spider-man so soon?" is painfully obvious. Sony doesn't want to loose the rights to Spider-man. If there is no Spiderman movie in production, Sony looses the film rights to Disney.
I am just guessing, but I think am right on the money here![/shadow]

Sam wanted Vulture, Sony wanted Black Cat, they tried to compromise by having the Vulturess, but in the end they parted ways. You know all this could've been avoided if they just listened to the fans and used Kraven and Lizard. The story practically writes itself there. And now we're back to where we started nearly a decade ago. This is probably Sony's last chance. If this one bombs, it's probably time for them to give Marvel the rights back. The same ideas goes for Fox's Fantastic Four reboot.

Jack is correct on the fact that if Sony doesn't have a Spider-man movie in production. Sony loses the rights. That's why there is a handful of X-Men movies coming out. Because if Fox quits making them, they loose the rights. And since Disney now owns Marvel, the rights will go to Disney.
All-star is correct on the production problems. The proof is visible in the change of writers.
All-Star, the question was "Why a reboot so soon?" Jack answered it with his statement. You answered the deeper question. "Why isn't Spider-man 4 going into production?"
Sadly Sony doesn't have to give up Spider-man movie rights as long as there making Spider-man movies. They should, but it doesn't mean they have to.

Yeah, it seems way to soon for a reboot. But that seems to be the thing with hollywood these days. If the sequels can't make money, do a reboot or "re-imagining" ( I hate that word. ITS A REMAKE D@MIT!!!!! WISH THEY WOULD JUST FESS UP TO THAT!!!) I love how they are treating movies like tv shows these days. If one series didn't make it. Make a new series. I just can't stand that this format actually works.
Whats funny is I still have never seen SpiderMan 3. Not really a Spiderman fan.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes. Im okay with them recasting, turning the clock back a bit, and taking a bit of a different tone, but I odnt know about completely starting over.

What's the difference between "recasting, turning the clock back a bit and taking a bit of a different tone" and "completely starting over"? Basically whether or not they completely disregard what has come before and start all over again from scratch... re-telling the origin etc etc.

Guys you look at these things from the wrong perspective..you're looking at it like a fan. Sony isn't full of fans, its full of business men and women that are looking to make a dime. So if you're faced with losing a HUGE franchise or re-booting it what do you do? Its not a question.
I honestly thought the Spiderman movies were ok, but I'm all for new takes..they weren't that great, imo. I'd like to see it done better..It was physically painful to watch Tobey in Spiderman 3..he was just horrible. The movies were too hoaky. Not saying this reboot will be better, but hey every franchise goes through phases.

Especially the first one(You'll never convince me that the whole wrestling scene with Randy Savage was well done!). I'd love it if the franchise was done in a Nolan-like tone, but obviously not too much of a copy. Hoakiness has its place in comic book movies, but not with a character with so many issues like Peter Parker/Spider-man. His relationships with Harry, Norman Osborne, Doc Connors and Eddy Brock need to be explored much deeper. As much of a fan as Raimi says he is, his movies didn't do that

I understand and agree Matt. Im not in love with the pre-existing movies and understand the studio's mindset. I just think its too soon for a new "phase" and personally have no interest in seeing that already. Otherwise Im interested enough in another or "new" Spiderman movie. Myself, I think Spiderman 2 had plenty of hokey / silly moments personally. I dont get why 2 is so revered.

Besides, I would much rather see him done in a more Favreau, Abrams or Wheadon like tone instead.

I watched an interview with him just the other day. I found him very charismatic, geeky and a little charming all at the same time. I am sorry to say it, but I think he is a better choice for Parker then Tobey was!

Good news: A release date has been set for July 3, 2012.
Bad news: It'll be in 3D. (well, bad news to me. i'm tired of every movie coming out now being in 3D.)

Honestly, after that Captain America casting frenzy that practically lasted two months and Studio's shamelessly lying to keep rumors at bay, I will not believe anything until we have solid conformation.

You can't be serous? What kinda choices are these for Peter Parker?
Jamie Bell: Not bad, but to old for the role.
Andrew Garfield: He was good in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, but he is going to be close to thirty by the time the movie comes out!
Josh Hutcherson: He looks like someone that would beat up Peter Parker.
Frank Dillane: He reminds me of that creepy ex-boyfriend who follows you around.
Alden Ehrenreich: I have no idea who he is, but I don't think he has that Peter Parker vibe.
I guess I will just pick "None of the above" and hope they reconsider Logan Lerman.
