dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2011/02/09/batman-arkham-city-comic/BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY comic book miniseries announced! Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 By Austin Trunick Batman: Arkham Asylum was one of the most successful video games of 2009, and earned a Guinness World Record for the “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever.” This May, find out what happened between Batman: Arkham Asylum and its highly anticipated sequel in BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, a six-issue miniseries that bridges the gap between the two games, and leads into the game’s release this fall. Written by Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini (who also penned both Arkham games) and drawn by Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City concept artist Carlos D’anda, BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY picks up one year after the original game, where former Arkham Warden turned newly elected Mayor of Gotham City Quincy Sharp has decided to close down the infamous institution. In its stead, he establishes “Arkham City,” the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, inmates can roam free and do whatever they want as long as they don’t try to escape. To run this urban prison, Sharp has appointed Dr. Hugo Strange, a man who knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Each issue of the miniseries will be available day-and-date digitally worldwide for $2.99 each. These releases will alternate with 8-page digital-first interludes that will expand on the story included in the miniseries. Written by Dini and drawn by a variety of artists, these digital stories will focus on The Dark Knight’s many enemies as they vie for power in this new city within a city. Each eight-page digital-first interlude will be available for .99 cents, releasing in between issues of the miniseries, and will later be included in print in the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY collected edition. “The digital first stories offer a unique incentive for fans to experience interesting and exciting stories beyond the pages in the printed comic,” said Jim Lee, DC Comics Co-Publisher, “The additional pages will serve as interludes within the regular issues and won’t be necessary to follow the main story of the miniseries. Fans will also be able to read these interludes in print later, when we publish the collected edition.” Read the comic before you play the game, and keep an eye out for the issue #1 variant cover, utilizing in-game graphics. BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY will double-ship in its first month, with issues 1 & 2 landing in May.

BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY #1-2 Written by PAUL DINI Art and cover by CARLOS D’ANDA Issue #1 1:10 Video game art variant It’s been a year since The Joker took over Arkham, and Gotham is still trying to get back to normal in this all-new, 5-issue miniseries bridging the gap between the hit videogame Batman: Arkham Asylum and the exciting, upcoming sequel, Batman: Arkham City! In issue #2, amid the protests of both human rights groups and Bruce Wayne, a new Arkham rises. The Joker is scheduled to be its first inmate, but not if Harley Quinn has anything to say about it. Meanwhile, Batman’s suspicions lead him to investigate just who is really behind this new, more sprawling asylum and what their motivations might be. Issue #1 on sale MAY 11; Issue #2 on sale MAY 25 • 1 and 2 of 5, 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Looks like they're already working on Arkham City figures; so far Harley is the only one revealed. If I had to guess on other figures, there would be Batman, Two-Face, Catwoman, Freeze, Stange, Talia, and maybe Riddler and Joker.

yeah that Harley fig looks awesome, i cant wait for those. i'm glad DC Direct is making Arkham City figs too as the Two-Face in Mattel's Legacy line looked terrible at Toy Fair. hopefully DC Direct's will look better if they make him. i'm sure we'll get Catwoman and Riddler as well depending on the amount of waves they decide to make. i think it'll also depend on how well the Arkham Asylum figs sell too.

Well I plan on getting the whole first wave, and Bane, Ivy and Zsasz from the second. So far, I think they're only doing 2 waves for Asylum. Maybe City will do the same. I kind of hope they don't waste space with more Batman figures though and give more characters a figure, since based on what I've seen, he looks the same in this game as he did the first. They should only have a new one if it has a different design, like they're having the armored Batman in the second Asylum wave.

im very happy that DCD is making "CITY" figures, i was worried with all the rumors of dcd going away i hope they make "city" figures and they have. i also lookinf farward to the "ARKHAM" figures next week. as for the mattel figures i like them, the added articulation looks awsome and the detail is well done hope they do more.
@all star-from the pics i've seen of batman from "city" he has a new suit but with some minor changes such as a new logo, new arms and leg guards and new belt. other than that he looks same but i hope DCD make the new changes for the new batman.

oh yeah, i was looking through the pics we seen so far from the game and i started to notice those little things. the new logo was a give away, then i saw the arm pads and then the leg pad look different from the first game model and the battle-damage figure from SDCC. i have a habit of noticing the small stuff.

New preview: au.pc.ign.com/articles/115/1152010p1.htmlHere are some highlights: Detective Mode complaints aside, there are some welcome upgrades for Batman's tools of the trade. This includes the Cryptographic Sequencer, which pops up a small holographic panel above Batman's arm. Batman can then locate signals across the city and hack into them, listening in on what the armed militia or others are up to. Combat plays out much like in Arkham Asylum, with Batman fluidly chaining attacks between large groups of enemies. But he has more tricks up his sleeve. The Bat Claw can grab and zip baddies towards Batman's waiting fist, new silent takedowns allow for impressive sleeper hold moves, and there's just a higher level of brutality to Batman's combos. Despite the heightened stakes, there is some evidence that the fun little Easter Eggs that brought Arkham Asylum to life are also in Batman's newest adventure. Early on, Batman finds a babbling Calendar Man locked in a cell. He's murmuring about St. Patrick's Day and a crime he committed, but he won't give details. As it turns out, if you return on St. Patrick's Day (in real life, not in the game world), Calendar Man will give vivid details on his crime's from that day. Each holiday has a story for those who want to revisit Calendar Man throughout the year.

Highly Anticipated Batman: Arkham City™ Launches in Stores Beginning October 18
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced that the highly anticipated videogame Batman: Arkham City™ will step out of the shadows and onto store shelves in North America beginning October 18, in Australia beginning October 19 and in Europe and other global territories beginning October 21, for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Games for Windows PC and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City is the follow-up to the award-winning hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum™ and delivers an authentic and gritty Batman experience.
Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City – five times larger than the game world in Batman: Arkham Asylum – and the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new, all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.
Batman: Arkham City is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license.
