Thought it'd be fun to share first Bat-issue stories... I was 3 years old back in 1978 and was visiting my Grandparents and Uncle with my family. My Uncle was always on the cutting edge and showed us his latest new toy...a VCR! He surprised my brother and I by showing us 2 episodes of the Adam West Batman TV Show (which was aired as repeats at the time). Later on that day my father had found and purchased a giant Batman coloring book which was essentially done in comic book style... But our first true Batman comic would arrive later that week as my father had picked it up after work from the stationary store (when comics could still be found on spinner racks)...Detective Comics #477, which featured a reprinted tale from 'TEC 408, "The House That Haunted Batman", where Batman is trapped in a house built by Dr. Tzin-Tzin while trying to find Robin. So, that was not only my first Batman comic, but the comic that got me hooked on comics for life! So, what's YOUR first Batman comic?

Detective Comics #579 from 1987. I was 8 and we were on a family vacation. We stopped at a gas station it was on the rack and I asked if I could have it. Bet my mom and dad wished that they had said no. It had the Crime Doctor in it and everytime that I go to a show or a store out of town if I happen to see it I usually buy it. I have about 20 copies of it and I think the most expensive one was the first one that my parents bought at the 75 cent cover price.

The first Batman comics I ever bought were Batman 397, 398, and 399. They wer all together in a package that I purchased while on a family vacation. I probably read those three issues a couple dozen times that week.
The first single issue that I bought was Batman #468. The first part of the Shadow Box Trilogy. I've been collecting Batman and all related titles ever since.
I was lucky enough to purchase two pages of original art from Batman #469 (Shadow Box pt 2) a few years later.

Man I wish I had the answer to this one. It would be so cool to know but I just dont. Im sure it was some random issue from the mid-late 70's. I know several over time and from my early days of reading that have stuck in my mind over time, but I have no idea what my "first" was. Possibly a mini comic / promo of some sort or maybe even a "read along" book that came with a cassette? Most likely Im sure it was just a floppy from the 70's. An example of some of the most influential books from my past include Tales of the Teen Titans #44, Dark Knight Returns, Batman: the Cult, and Crisis on Infinite Earths. These are some of the first to really be committed to memory and fueled my interest in the hobby.

I always find that first Clayface issue I bought in bargain boxes or at 1/2 Price Books. I don't know why I keep buying it, lol. My grandparents use to have a pantry with the walls covered with old newspapers (like wallpaper). I'd like to do that with old comics sometime.

I don't remember my first Batman comic ('cuz I got it when I was three), but the first one I actually took care of (and still have) is Batman #431. It actually got me back into comics because of the great story and that it showcased everything awesome about Batman: his early training, his detective skills, mastery of both martial arts and disguise, weapon improvisation, his compassion, his moral code, and just general badassery. Given all the complex, continuity-driven story arcs nowadays (thank you, Mr. Levitz), this is a refreshing throwback to those bygone days when standalone stories were the norm. If you don't have it, I recommend hunting it down...

My first one was the Batman Returns comic adaptation. Still have that, although it's missing the covers (I got a brand new one though)...Bah, I'm not as old as you guys.

The adventures of batman and robin issue 8. I remember buying it to this day, walking into the comic book shop for the first time and spotting the awesome cover with poison ivy and harley quinn on it. Brings back memories...
