Fine by me, he's British, a very good actor, and he lacks the sort of offscreen persona that might be distracting to his portrayal of the character. It might seem out of left field since his name has not been linked with the role previously, but so was Oldham as Gordon - how did everybody think that worked out?

Actually SSH didn't announce it. The article was from The Latino Review. & SSH regards it as false. The news they said to expect regards the Joker in general not Heath Ledger.

I think Id be ok with this actually. I can see him in the makeup and all. If this is true though, heres wb's thinking on casting him - " ok ok he played... a gay guy - so he should be able to play the joker"
But on the other hand he might be a little to much of a pretty boy to do it. Unless the Begins Joker is gonna be a little more suave then joker has been portrayed before.

[shadow=green,left,300] Him doing The Joker!? That guy from 'The Patriot'? I can't see him doing Joker, I just don't see it. I have to go with Batlaw on this one, I don't believe it seeing most of the time stuff like this is wrong. [/shadow]

I could see him in the role. I hadn't thought of it before, but I think it could work. I hope that if this is true, he will bring something new and awesome to the character.

I trust Nolan too. Hey Ledger won an academy award right? So he can act in various roles.

I also trust Nolan. So I think he probably knows what he's doing casting Ledger as the Joker. Let's just hope we get the psychopathic killer Joker we all know and love(or hate in Batman's case).

Heath is a great actor....and I think we should all give him the chance to prove himself before we judge. Lets at least see the make-up..see a clip..give him a chance to shine...we all WANT him to be good, right?

[glow=red,2,300] We deserve Nolan the respect for his choices he deserves it after ridding the shame of Batman and Robin! But if he is the Joer it needs to be more violent and scary than nicholson! Just like out of the comics!A dark dangerous character! [/glow]

Since Ledger is the Joker, wouldn't it be weird if Jake Gylenhall got the role of Harvey Dent as well? Insert Brokeback Mountain joke here.

[shadow=purple,left,300]As an actor, Heath Ledger is getting better with each film he does. He's not my favorite, and he certainly is not on my list of best choices for the role, but if Nolan picked him, then it's probably for all the right reasons.[/shadow]

Anyway I was going through my head how Heath sounds. I think he could pull off the look of the Joker just fine, but in my opinion it really takes a good voice and a crazy laugh to do the character justice. Just look at how great of a job Mark Hamil did with the character, let's hope Heath can do just as well.

[shadow=green,left,300] Your right Matt, I can see him pull off the look but I can't quite see his voice being Jokerish. I will have to see him in action before I should say anything, I saw a movie with him in it yesterday and he's a great actor but I will have to wait and see him do Joker. [/shadow]

Ive been giving this some thought and i really cant get excited over the casting choice. I personally dont think Ledger is a good actor, he was the one thing i didnt like about The Patriot. I cant really envision him as the Joker, but im not sure we're going to get a traditional looking Joker from Nolan. Im one of the few who wasnt really wowed over by Begins, i found it a bit dull, as i find all of Nolans movies. I find it hard to get too excited for the sequel because of Nolans obsession with "realism" and this bit of casting news doesnt help.

Mark Hamill has the BEST Joker voice ever, his laugh was amazing! I especially loved his scream when he read the paper when Harley and Ivy teamed up. PLus Robert Englund is another great example I spat when I found out he did Riddler's voice lol. I will just wait and see. [/shadow]

Now before you all start calling me crazy that's just my opinion. Begins was great but not something that wowed me, and I will just have to see how Heath does Joker. [/shadow]

oh well if this rumor is true, there goes the franchise! Thats a bit much, don't you think? I can completely understand, with ANY new casting for a beloved character, but its a little early to be calling the entire franchise a travesty! My very public opinion about the previous Batman films is that they were anything but close to sufficient. Jack Nicholson is an amazing actor..as is Michael Keaton...I love Burton's OTHER films...I enjoy DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer..etc.....but the movies themselves were so far from the core of what Batman is, at least to me, that I can't even watch them. Batman Begins...NOLAN's choices in Batman Begins were ground breaking, IMO. He chose actors that you and I perhaps would not have seen in a role, because he's a visionary...this is his job. I seriously doubt he took the job of casting the Joker lightly..and I doubt that he would have cast an actor not fully dedicated to his vision of what the Joker will be. I would like to personally welcome Heath to the Batman Universe with open arms. He plays a variety of roles quite well, and as long as he's serious about his portrayl of the Joker...I'm all behind giving it a very fair chance.
