Okay. This is my thought(s) on the whole sequel thing so far. I do like the title The Dark Knight. Im not real excited about Ledger being cast as Joker. I just dont care for him as an actor. Im also worried about Nolans "realistic" approach towards the Batman "world". As for the Penguin being announced as a second villain (as per BOF's release) Im wondering how big a role he will have in the movie. To me, Joker and Penguin are the top 2 rogues and to have them both in the same flick may be overkill. The announcement that the role was offered to Phillip Seymour Hoffman, cool. After seeing him in Mi3, I think he could do a good job. Having said that, Im not sure what the characterization Nolan plans on giving Penguin. It is said that he is going to be a British arms dealer with designs on taking over Gotham and goes by the nickname, The Penguin. This isnt the character, but i will wait for further details before final judgement.
I have worries about this franchise, to say the least. The popular saying on the SHH boards is "In Nolan I Trust". Please. He is, after all, a Hollywood director. He only has a couple films under his belt (to my knowledge) Insomnia and Memento, both which i found to be very boring films. His latest, The Prestige does show some promise for me. Begins, to me, I found to be wuit unentertaining. A bit dull and, yes, boring. Was it a good story? Yes. However i feel it was a drab Batman film. The confrontation of Batman and Joker, whether it be comics, cartoons, or movies, should be huge. Im not sure if Nolan can deliver it. Again, Ill wait until more movie details become available before final judgement, but i, thus far, have low expectations.
I also have another thing running thru my mind, and let me share this with you. In 1988 when WB started the first big Batman project since the 60's they wanted something completely different and unique to bring new life to the Batman character. They found this with Tim Burton. Batman 1989 was huge. We all know this. Due to the success of 89, WB allowed Burton to do the sequel giving him more of an opertunity to do his vision. Thus, Batman Returns. Returns didnt make as much as 89 and, to this day, is almost split 50/50 with the fans. WB then wanted a new director to bring a more action/family accessable summer blockbuster to the franchise. Enter Joel Schumacher. Forever was a big hit in the summer of 95. Batman was back. Beause of the success of Forever, WB instantly greenlit another sequel and gave Schumacher the reigns to continue his vision. We got Batman and Robin, Schumachers "comic book" come to life. Now, 8 years later, Nolan shows up with his vision and brings back some respectability to the character as well as a more "realistic" look. Begins did well and embraced by most of the fanbase and critics. WB gives the go ahead for Nolan to do his sequel. Is this going to follow suit with all the other directors sequels? Is this going to be an even more "realistic" view of the Batman characters and world? Statements have already been made as to how he wants to approach Joker and Penguin. Time will tell, but as i said above, I remain very optimistic.
The Caped Crusader? Um, NO!

I like it. I just can't decide whether it would be better as Batman: The Dark Knight or just The Dark Knight.

It's great! I'm undecided as to whether it should be The Dark Knight or Batman: The Dark Knight, but I'd like it either way. I like the exquisite simplicity of The Dark Knight, but Batman: The Dark Knight does sound better with Batman Begins. And I think the title fits, because whereas Begins was Batman's origin and him dealing with his past and becoming Batman, this movie should be THE Batman movie, with an established Batman taking on the man who will become his greatest foe, and we should see the Batman we know really come out.

Although Ive longed for a departure from the previous title formula, I prefer the ussage of "Batman" in this case. Just "The Dark Knight" sounds incomplete. I wasnt a fan of the title "Batman Begins", but it grew on me somewhat because it has a ring to it and rolls of the tongue despit being kinda lame. I think "The Caped Crusader" would be silly no matter what. I would like to see the titles handled like the Star Wars franchise.
-Batman- Intimidation Game
-Batman- Revenge of the Riddler
-Batman- Curse of the Shadows
Whatever

I'd go with Revenge of The Riddler anyday ;D I just hope in the future when they pick a guy to do Riddler it's someone who fits the role and not someone who I might end up regreting. But anyway 'The Dark Knight' sounds great to me [/shadow]

I like the title "The Dark Knight". I hope they call the third film "Gotham Chronicals" or something like that. ^.^

Did anybody realize, or remember, that Batman: The Dark Knight was one of the titles for Batman 5 by Schumacher? I wonder if there was a negetive against him reason for using the title that he was working on until B&R's awful reaction in 1997.

[shadow=green,left,300] I kind of agree with Shadowbat, Batman Begins was good movie but not my favorite. I hope that the sequel will be better and I will have to see it until I make my final judgement [/shadow]

Sadly I wanted Batman Begins, Batman Continues, and Batman Ends. At least for this trilogy. For those average joes its like "Yo Imma go see THE DARK NIGHT!" - Uhh what's that?

hmmm....I wonder if they won't lead into a "The Dark Knight Returns" gimmick for the third one... Geez..I hope not...the only reason to name a Batman movie that would be if it were an actual adaptation of the story, imo...and I don't want to see that in live action(personally I'm hoping for that to be adapted into one of the new Direct-to-video animated DC movies). Plus it would be too much like Batman Returns. Why was that movie named that, anyway? Batman wasn't returning from anything in the story, he never left! Oh well.

yeah i always wondered that. i guess it was more for the cinema-goers, telling them that a new Batman movie was out.
and Batman Forever was stupidly named also, as in the final cut of the movie, we didn't actually see why Bruce had to be Batman "forever", it was cut out and left as a deleted scene on the special edition dvd.

I think Batman Begins was almost perfect; the only thing I didn't like was the underuse of the Scarecrow, especially his rather easy defeat at the end of the film. I don't think that Nolan will go the route of Burton and Schumacher with his second film, for two reasons: the stated, much-discussed history of the Bat film franchises, which he undoubtably is aware of, and the comic-geek guidance of David Goyer.

Since they are using The Dark Knight as the title to the sequel to Batman Begins, I doubt they will use The Dark Knight again. This is why I suggested The Caped Crusader. I know it sounds campy but lets look at it on the non-campy side: Batman is a crusader of everything that is good and brings that back, through heroic means, to his city. The Caped Crusader fits that and is a good title.
So while you guys think it would be a bad title and is campy, with Batman and who he is in mind, the title fits well.

"The Caped Crusader" just doesn't make any sense as a title for the third movie in a trilogy of Batman films. it doesn't fit at all... you've got to have either a hint of finality or infinity. not just another title based on the main character's superhero "name." The first film had a title that was perfect for it... Batman truly did begin in that movie, so "Batman Begins" was particularly fitting. "The Dark Knight" is a good middle-movie title simply because it implies that he is now an established part of the movie's universe. He is known. The third (and supposedly final) movie in the series needs to have a title that symbolizes the trilogy's end. perhaps not something that suggests the end of the character, or the end of the universe in which the story takes place (they obviously want to avoid things like, "Batman ends"), but there's got to be some amount of finality that is identifiable by the movie's name. i actually think that "Batman Forever" would have been great for the concluding chapter of these Bat-films, had it not already been taken (and by a mediocre camp-fest of a movie, no less) Whatever happens, though, i am about 99.99% sure that Chris (and co.) won't name the third movie "The Caped Crusader" ...and i truly HOPE that they don't. i have full confidence that it will be a fitting title to the last chapter of this amazing bat-film series.

...how about The Dark Knight Truimphant? Of course, I can only see it as Batman: The Dark Knight Truimphant. That title gives the feeling of victory, the accomplishment of the character.

i would like to say that no one said the 3rd one was going to be their last chapter sure, we know they ARE signed to do 3 movies but we could get lucky and they could do a 4th...*wishful thinking*

I don't think they should call the third one The Dark Knight Triumphant either. The third movie should be called something that signifies the end of Batman's first year (since I consider the first three movies "Year One") and has something to do with Dent's betrayal when he becomes Two-Face. I still can't think of one. Though I do like idea someone said about calling it "Shadow of the Bat."
It would be cool if Nolan, Goyer, and the rest of the cast would stay on to make more movies.

Personally I prefer Batman: The Dark Knight over just The Dark Knight, just because, to me, it has a better overall ring to it, while still retaining that classic non-de-plume, and also letting the everyday non Bat savvy joes know at a glance that, yes, this is the new Batman movie.
The way I look at it, Batman is the franchise name, while The Dark Knight is the film name, kind of the same way as you have things like Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest or whatever.

I am a little torn. In a way, I don't think they need Batman in the title. The intro to BTAS did not have one single word or title, yet everyone knew it was Batman. Maybe the only thing that is needed is the symbol. However, Batman Begins did have Batman in the title. That implies that they are not of the same continuity. Since many people believed that BB was a prequel to Batman '89, it may create even more confusion.

To be honest i couldn't care less even if they called it"Batman:Knight in Tights"to be honest. As long as they carry on with the same feel as Begins which i loved i'll be happy. After all it's the movie itself which matters to me much more than the title.Just my $0.02 as Reid would say.
