What did everyone think of the unused theme created by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard that was much more epic and in more of a classical heros style?

I personally think it sounds very good and I really enjoy listening to it very loud with lots of bass as I drive to and from work hehe.

Yeah I keep telling people that there was an actual Batman Begins theme but no one believes me. I wish it wasn't so downplayed. I thought that the sort of Gotham theme was played to great effect.

Where did you get this theme from? did you download it somewhere or is it on the actual soundtrack cd?

Ugh...now ive noticed there is speculation that it may not be the unreleased theme after all. There IS a unreleased theme written by Howard and Zimmer.....but the song touted on so many websites may have not been it.

Sites such as Soundtrack.net and Score Monthly have confirmed on their forums that this is a piece called "Judgement Day" by Immediate Music- a group that typically does trailer music-and not the original Batman Begins theme. Sorry.
I've heard that the original theme was used in the film, but only to a small extent. You can hear a little bit of it on the track on the soundtrack titled "Antrozous." It was mainly played in the U.S. trailer when we see Bruce traveling after Ducard says "A legend...Mr. Wayne." Don't take my word for it though.

Y'know, it's funny. If I had a quibble at all with this movie, it's that it didn't have a strong theme.
I keep picturing the last scene in the film with Bats and Gordon on the rooftop and in my mind I'm humming the same Danny Elfman music we hear at the end of 1989's Batman when the camera pans up the side of the building and we see Batman with the batsignal in the sky.

I'm quite smitten with the score, especially Lasiurus. Eptesicus has also taken root in my brain. I disagree that there is not a discernable 'theme' - perhaps there is not one as obvious and rousing as Elfman's, but the score has a life of its own. The clairnet/oboe refrain that heralds memories of his parents as well as the driving strings and progressive two-chord chorus (most obvious during the swirling bats in the cave scene) echo throughout the work. I believe it was intentional not to draw too much attention away from the movie and merely provide resonance to the scenes with musical moodsetting. It's hard to listen to pieces of the score and *not* envision the emotion of the film.
My 2c anyway.

the music in Begins was good, but i like Elfmans theme best. it seemed to capture Batman. best part of the old movies.

Yeah there is definitely an underlying theme to the movie....but not on a grand scale like the Elfman one. I still really want to hear what Zimmer and Howard created but didnt use.

IMHO the music was appropriate for the very theme- FEAR it sounded like a heartbeat crescendoing for the scenes in which Batman/Wayne was encountering bats or when the criminal/villian element was encountering Bats. if you noticed after the scene in the cave when bruce overcomes his fear of bats that the beat of the music changes only once more, when he's given a dose of Crane's fear gas and sees the bats coming after him from Scarecrow's mouth. It was perfectly audible in a time when its en vague to have the soundtrack almost overwhelm the voiceover so as to hide the poorly acted scenes a little more.
