I went with the first Batman Forever suit. Yeah I know it had those ever controversial nipples but I still think it looked damn cool. I think the overall best Batsuit would be the Batman Forever one, minus the nipples, with the belt that's the same color as the bat logo background.

I like all of them apart from the 'Returns' and '& Robin' normal suit.
the Returns one was a bit dull, and had the abs sculpted into flat bits which I didn't like really, and I didn't like the blueness of the & Robin suit.
my fave 3 (in no order) are 'Begins', 'Forever Sonar', and '& Robin' Freeze suit (the blue and silver one).

I'd go with Begins' suit...IMO, part of Batman's role is that of stealth, and, the last two costumes weren't that stealthy...That, and it featured an emblem without the yellow oval; it's built with Kevlar; no "bat-nipples" ...The list could go on...

FAVORITE BATGRAPPLESOnce again, I'd have to go with Batman Begins...The grapple gun was similar to the comics (CONTINUITY= COOL ), and it felt right, IMO, for the movie's setting... Any thoughts? What's your favorite and why? Cool...Somebody voted for the Mask of the Phantasm grapple! I knew that [the decision to to include that on the list] was a wise choice! ;D I go with Begins with you. I like your thinking...YOU'RE HIRED! ;D Well, if the MOTP grapple gun is the same as the one Batman uses in the animated series (sometimes you can't assume these things, lol), then I'd go with that. I'm not the one who voted for it, btw, because...I don't vote at any polls here because they never work for me. I place in my vote and it says "You didn't select who you wanted to vote for." Anyways, the reason why I like it is that it seems just as practical as the others. Yet it looks the least like an actual firearm and the barrel (or whatever you call it) gives enough room for a big enough and strong enough hook to shoot out. The Batman Forever grapple gun was ridiculously small. The ones in Batman Begins, Batman 1989, and Batman Returns looked a bit too close to actual firearms for my taste. One of my friends saw a pic from Batman Returns of Batman holding out the grappling gun (before shooting it into the wall behind the clown that's got Selina hostage) and he was like, "Batman doesn't use a gun!" I told him it was a grapple and he was relieved. Still, I imagine Bruce would most likely use the BTAS grapple. Plus it just looks darn cool, especially whenever he shoots it with Shirley Walker's theme song in the background.

FAVORITE UTILITY BELTWhich Batman utility belt was your favorite from the movies? Mine would have to be Batman Begins', because it featured the look/ design of his traditional pouch-belt, but had an updated look that didn't feel out of place with the character/ movie setting... What's your favorite and why? (BTW...I included Mask of the Phantasm because it could count as a movie belt; it was featured in a Batman movie not released directly-to-video/ DVD) Once again, I go with Begins. ;D Me'thinks that I'm seeing a pattern with the fans... ;D I think it can only be Begins, because the other 4 movie belts were just that, belts, yet whatever situation Batman found himself in, the appropriate gadget/weapon would appear out of thin air for him to use. whereas in Begins, we actually see the various compartments on the belt containing the items, they don't just appear out of nowhere. and of course the fact that it has reasoning behind it, with the Kevlar straps to properly attach to a soldiers body around the shoulders and upper thighs, instead of being like a belt you would use on your trousers, makes it that much more interesting when Bruce decides he doesn't want the extra straps and cuts them off. (it won't let me vote, it keeps saying I didn't choose what I want to vote for, when I clearly did, but I vote for Begins.) That's odd...I've heard that other people can't vote as well...Whatever happened, it wasn't intentional on my part... Thank Nolan (hey, that/ this could be my new slogan... ;D) for not utilizing a yellow utility belt...If you were a borderline-psychopath stealth-trained martial artist who chose to fight criminals because of vow on the death of a family member, would YOU use a highly-visible target around the mid-section for your enemies to shoot at? No? I didn't think so... ;DYeah, I'm glad that they didn't do that with 'Begins'...If they did, IMO, it would've felt like the 60's television show, where (like you mentioned ^) he could pull out any device when he needed it...And, it's sort of symbolic of his crusade; he uses a modified "dark knight's " (soldier's) suit of "shinning armor" (not literally, as it's a reference to the metal [metal=shiny] bullet-proof Kevlar armor) to help him combat evil in his war on crime... Batman Forever because it was black (Clooney's was silver, like the rest of his nippled suit, lol). It looked natural with the suit. It didn't stand out, thus brilliant for camouflage. I really can't think of why he'd choose any other color. I know some say that it's so he can see which gadget is in which pouch, but I'd also figure that an obsessed guy like Bruce would have which gadget is in which ouch by muscle memory. In Scott Beatty's The Batman Handbook, he said that Bruce has committed every location of each gadget to muscle memory. If he wants a certain thing, he doesn't have to waste a precious second or two trying to remember or see where the heck it is. I like that.

The Best.....
Batcowl: Batman 1989. It just looks bad@$$. My problem with the one in Batman Begins was that it was so tight at times that Christian's face looked fat (especially when he was talking to Gordon in the "Do you drive stick?" scene). While the cowl was kind of offset in a couple shots of Batman 1989, it was nowhere near as noticeable.
Cape: Batman Begins because it flowed out like it does in the comics and it was sweet how it hardened into bat wings when he flew out. My only wish is that they'd let the cape drape over the shoulders.
Bat Insignia: Batman Begins. Subtle and not in-your-face. Looked very much like Jim Lee's design.
Torso: Batman 1989. Looked more natural and organic than any of the others. The torsos of Batman Returns and Batman Begins looked too robotic looking for my taste. The Schumacher suits were way too overdone.
Gauntlets (those hooks on the sides of his gloves): Batman Begins. They just looked so cool, especially in that scene when Bruce has the stapler to Gordon's head. We also got to see their "origin."
Utility Belt: Batman Forever. See above as for why.
Combine all of those (I don't care what the boots look like) and you got yourself the perfect cinematic Batman suit, IMO.

hhmmm. (considering only what has appeared in major studio films) For my money the Forever suit was ultimately the best overall. The "Best" IMO would be an amalgam of the Begins and Forever versions. I.E. Forever cowel and overall suit sculpt but with Begins texture and matte color/finish, Begins belt? (maybe maybe not in black?) Begins cape (mostly material and ability) but "attached" like Forever's. Did the Forever chest emblem start w/ the yellow oval? if so then that (or returns version) or Begins style with contrasting color or finish to the rest of the suit. The "gauntlets" should be "glove spikes" like Forever (not seperate pieces ala Begins) but with Begins design / look. Boots should be simple, traditional, and coordinated (nothing fancy shmancy or over done). Arsenal should be practical, appropriate, and realistic. A mix between Begins Tech and style with 89 and Forever sensability.

Definitely the Begins suit. I loved how it was tied to his origin - the whole ninja theme - and how every part of it had a use, nothing was impractical. It was great looking, and the belt was just awesome. It was flexible, did well with figting, the cape rocked, I liked the cowl's shape and angry expression, the symbol looked really cool, and of course, the gauntlets kicked @$$!

just 1 thing, I have just got the Begins Visual Guide book by Scott Beatty, and in it, the 'grapple gun' is spelt 'grapnel'. has it always been 'grapnel', but us fans have been spelling it wrongly as 'grapple'?
(also, what is Rutger Hauer's character really called? William or Richard Earle? in this book it says William, and Lucius Fox calls him 'Bill' at the end, but in other places I've seen him called Richard, so his nickname would be 'Dick', not 'Bill'.)

[shadow=purple,left,300]I liked the suits used in "Batman Returns" and "Batman Begins," plus the sonar suit from "Batman Forever." I didn't care for the bat-emblem in "Batman," and I wasn't impressed with the nipples in "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin."[/shadow]

It's William. Richard was the original first name and for some unknown reason they changed it during production.

Also, does/ do anyone here wish to see more of Batman's arsenal of batarangs (not like the Batman Returns one, but different ones with, say, various calibrated weights) and smoke pellets? I would love to see something like his iconic pen-light, or, finger light...

I think the word 'grapnel' can be pronounced as 'grapple', so no worries Black Mask, but even if you pronounce the 'n' in grapnel, if you say it fast, it still produces a word that sounds like 'grapple'.

Technically I'm a technophile so I love the way begins shows how the suit as whole came into being as pieces were added together>i just love the way the cape is explained as a neccesary accesory to Bats survival in the jungle of Gotham City>But i did like the ... returns sonar suit and the ..and Robin freeze weather-gear suits too. Speaking of technobabble,in this months Pop-Sci there's an article about the uses of electroreactive polymers for robotics and ... morphing wings. When I read this piece I immediately thought of the "memory fibers" used for the ribs in Bats suit in "..Begins."

no, grapnel is definitely the correct spelling.
go on google images, and search for 'grapnel', you'll find lots of hooks and stuff.
and @ Freizerader, you mean you like the Sonar Suit from 'Forever', not 'Returns'?

[shadow=purple,left,300]That's also what happens when you type in "grapple" (though there's a lot of fruit involved in that search, since a grapple is apparently a cross between an apple and grape?).
I assume they're both synonyms, and either one is correct. [/shadow]

Or, is it just a case that we're all (including myself) confusing/ amalgamating the words "grapple" and "shrapnel" into "grapnel"? Just wondering, because I was thinking about this last night...

Definately Begins. Although I wasn't too fond of the suit when i first saw it it grows on you. I think it should be the same in Batman 2, But a little more fleshed out, & intracate.

My fave is the Forever Batsuit. THe only thing I don't like is the nipples and the strangely shaped crotch. I don't like the begins suit as much because it's too... "armory" if that's a word. It's very matte and very hard looking. The Returns suit is also too hard looking and the B89 suit is too bulky. The Forever suit is the only one that looks like someone could realistically wear it.

I find it amazing that a crime fighter would go to the trouble of putting a full head-to-foot suit on, even if it is basically a wetsuit with armour attached or moulded onto it, it can't be easy to move around in it. and its hardly any use in an emergency if it takes 5 people 2 hours to get you into the suit, lol!
spidermans suit seems more like pyjamas, so at least its comfortable and allows agile movement, although offers zero protection.

I wish there was an other option because I would have voted for other and chosen the Batman Dead End outfit, which I feel is the best representation of Bats suit.
But voting in this thread I am going with Batman Returns, I thought that suit was really cool, and made sense...

I voted for the 89 suit because it had no votes and it deserves some IMO.apart from it being my favorite suit(I think its mostly sentiment)he looked damned menacing in it. I also liked Robins suit in B & R it was cool I thought.Kilmers suit in forever was good too as was the Robin costume
