www.suntimes.com/output/movies/cst-ftr-bat22.htmlThis part is what ticks me off... As for other Bat-rumors, Roven denies he's searching for a new, younger Joker to play Batman's nemesis in the sequel. "The Internet has the Joker cast already," Roven says shaking his head. "The 'Net has also cast the Riddler. It's just all rumors. ... The truth is we haven't even decided who will be the next villain."
He says the nod to the Joker in the current movie "was our way of tipping our hats to the very first Batman movie [in which Jack Nicholson was the JokerAlright, Mr. Roven....what about the Joker screen tests that Batman-On-Film have reported or that actors, such as Crispin Glover, have been up for the role by legit sources at LOG? And we're not even close to casting the Riddler yet (*cough Hugh Laurie please *cough*) And why was there a nod to a previous film when Batman Begins has nothing to do with the previous films? It's not a prequel, so why do that? Some average joes still think that Batman Begins was a prequel and that the Joker card simply sets them up for the first movie. WRONG. And having the Joker, in a new storyline and new interpretation, will change that perception and put all those "prequel" thoughts out of their heads.

Guys..and I say this from a fairly decent level of experience, do not take what you're reading here to heart.
Having dealt with a LOT of people in the industry...you would be surprised how someone very close to a project in official terms knows nothing of its inner workings. On the other hand, even if Mr. Roven does know, he ain't sayin'. What he's doing is more likely throwing up a smoke screen to try and throw internet fans off. The studios like their secrecy and when sites like BOF and LoG start getting too close for comfort, they throw out the PR machine.
Be patient...they can't keep things under wraps forever.

[Regarding casting someone who's role would be similar to an over-the-top performance in a previous movie; 1989 Batman]
Yoda: "Once you go down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny..."
If WB/ Nolan does go ahead with this, they could, possibly ruin the new franchise before it even really begins...It's hard enough for non-fans to realize that these are NEW movies in a NEW series, and not sequels to the OLD movies in the OLD series...
You've, IMO, hit the nail on the head...This is what every company/ business does, without exception, when they're faced with pressure from their supporters/ fans when dealing with an up-coming product/ project...

Thank you, Matt. Your words as well as Jett's on his news page regarding this are pretty encouraging. I hero you.

Anyone have any updates as to "Roven"-like statements issued by WB about the upcoming sequels?

The Joker needs to be in the next movie-Im afraid in terms of Villiany ALL of Batmans rogues are 4-5 points behind the Joker and he needs to face someone that sickens him and pushes his No Kill philosophy to the brink(although the Joker should still die- not by Bats hand though)and Im afraid NONE of the other rogues have that clout/stroke. I will say though that the recent icarnation of Black Mask would be suitable for a movie role in Nolans world-probably more than most of the rogues to be honest
