Justice League film shelved Wednesday January 16, 2008, 10:07 pm
Justice League of America #1Not surprisingly, Variety reports that the Justice League movie has been officially shelved for a couple of reasons, one being the current writer’s strike:
Warner Bros. has let the options lapse on the young cast that director George Miller chose to play DC superhero staples. The move made it clear that the project is no longer eyeing a spring start. It most likely won’t get underway until late summer or fall at the earliest.
Castmembers were informed late Tuesday that their options would not be exercised, but they were also told that the studio is determined to make the film, with them in it. Unfortunately, there were insurmountable problems that made a delay the best option. The studio’s reasons included not getting the official response it needed on tax breaks from shooting in Australia. And while WB execs like the script they got from Kieran and Michele Mulroney, it would benefit from a little more work, something that isn’t possible because of the writer’s strike.
Some were surprised that the studio didn’t exercise cast options anyway. The deals gave WB the flexibility to exercise the deals immediately, or in July, and the actors will be making salaries in the low six-figure range. While Adam Brody, cast as The Flash, has a track record, most of the cast is comprised of newcomers like Armie Hammer Jr., who plays Batman, and Megan Gale, who will play Wonder Woman.
If the script needs work, better they wait than to try moving forward.
Phew! Dodged that bullet.

They should've just gone with the CGI version instead of the live-action version. Then again I'm not sure if the CGI thing was a possibility or just a rumor.

Im actually kinda glad this movie is, atleast, on hold. To me, JLA is just to big to make into a movie. Now if every hero in the movie had an already ongoing franchise, yeah it would be ok. But since they don't, the movie would just be trying to introduce to many things at once. Now if they were LOTR'ing it, spacing it out over 2 or 3 movies and making it on a grand scale, than it would be ok.

I agree with you DrGreenEvil...as much as I'd hate to wait a year between each movie (as with LOTR) it'd be too much to cram into one movie and a lot of story line would hit the cutting room floor or just left out.

Not at all surprising, but somewhat unfortunate. The other day I went onto youtube and typed in Justice League and there were tons of fan trailers using all of the different live action versions of each character. It is pretty entertaining.

I'm glad they shelved it. The script from what I've heard is campy & I hate the cutrate cast George Miller assembled. He doesn't even cast realistically. If you cast someone as Wonder Woman, not only does she need to be able to act, but she needs to look like Wonder Woman. & Meghan Gale, can't act, & she looks nothing like WW. I think it's way too soon for a JLA film. They need to do GL & the flash first. or at least GL (with Hal Jordan) cause that would be awesome.

Justice League on for 2009Wednesday February 27, 2008, 5:00 am
The Justice League, by Alex Ross Variety reports that the Justice League movie, which was shelved earlier this year due to the writer’s strike, is back in business:
Scribes Kieran and Michele Mulroney are busy polishing up the script, which is expected back at the studio in several weeks, and the cast has been advised to keep training for their superhero roles. Director George Miller is in pre-production in Australia.
Adam Brody, cast as the Flash, is the biggest star in the superhero lineup. Rapper Common nabbed the Green Lantern role; other roles went to lesser-known thesps such as Armie Hammer Jr. (Batman) and Megan Gale (Wonder Woman). For the love of...

I have no interest to see a JL Movie.
A Batman/Superman Movie yes.....but not the whole team.
For some reason Batman and Superman work w/ solo movies, maybe because they are more known and have a better collection of villains to pit against them....?
Just a thought-

It just won't die! www.wizarduniverse.com/080508justiceleague.html'JUSTICE LEAGUE' MOVIE BACK ON TRACK? Plus, 'Green Lantern' gets the greenlight! By Josh Wigler Posted 8/05/2008 Who's to say there's no such thing as "Justice?" The Warner Bros. produced "Justice League" was one of the biggest casualties of this year's writer's strike. For a long time now, many have believed the project to be dead and buried. But the film's director George Miller recently spoke with the Herald Sun about the long gestating DC Comics adaptation, and as is common in many superhero tales, a resurrection is on the rise. "Miller conceded production had been moved offshore," the article states, "with a plan to resume filming next year." So unless George Miller's got his paws on some illicit Kryptonite capsules, it looks like "Justice League" is doing the zombie jig back into the realm of the living. But what could drive Warner Bros. to resuscitate the plagued project? Well, if we were betting Wizards—which, by the by, we are not—we'd say it has something to do with the company's recent meeting on how best to proceed with their DC properties. Need further evidence that Warner Bros. is getting their DC ducks in a row? According to Latino Review, Production Weekly's current issue slates "Green Lantern" as in development. The official description of the film reads: Each sector of space is protected by a Green Lantern, possessing a power ring that uses a powerful green energy to do anything within the limits of the user's imagination and will power. When the Green Lantern assigned to this sector of space finds himself dying on planet Earth, he tells the ring to find a suitable successor. The chosen replacement, hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan, finds himself with a new job he never expected. Perhaps the most interesting bit of news is that the film will center on Hal Jordan, whereas the Green Lantern in "Justice League" is John Stewart. So will "Green Lantern" feature a different continuity than "Justice League," or is Warners following Marvel's lead in creating their own DC movie universe? Could we be looking at a "Green Lantern Corps" flick in the not-so-distant future? Color us green with excitement! (Or maybe that's just lunch talking...) Be sure to stay tuned to Wizard Universe for the latest updates on your favorite comics-turned film and more!

WOULD THIS MOVIE JUST F'N GO AWAY ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand DC now wanting to really compete with marvel after their immense movie success. But starting out with a bad idea from the getgo is not the way to get their. Getting something out there just to get something out there is not a reason to make a movie, its not a reason to do anything, and is a definate formula for disaster.

Does anybody know if DC has any plans of buying out WB and getting the rights back to there own characters and forming there own movie studio like Marvel? Seems like if DC wants to follow in Marvel's footsteps, this would be the first move in making a bunch of great DC comic book based movies

Seems like if DC wants to follow in Marvel's footsteps, this would be the first move in making a bunch of great DC comic book based movies You have to remember though, that DC doesn't own the rights to its characters. The WB owns them. DC is basically just their distribution system to get that part of their property to the people. The WB would never sell DC unless they were just THAT DESPERATE for quick money. Even if by some weird happening they lose Superman, they stlll make billions off Batman, Wonder Woman and their other characters. If WB wanted, they could get rid of DC and start a whole new comic book company with the same exact characters and titles. Also, even if DC could start their own company. They would still need a movie company to distribute. And guess who that would be!!!!! Basically Warner Premier is that company for DC to do their own thing. And I do think it would be cool if it stretched out to live action movies.

A JLA movie would be the best movie ever. Batman! Superman! Wonder Woman! Aquaman! The Flash! Green Lantern! And the Martian Manhunter!
