UPDATE:The Joker: A Visual History of the Clown Prince of Crime Book Awhile back we reported on an upcoming book...The Joker: A Visual History of the Clown Prince of Crime. Amazon mistakenly had Matthew K. Manning as the author. It has since been corrected and the actual author is Daniel Wallace. Thanks to Dan for giving us the heads-up. Watch for an interview with him closer to the release date! legionsofgotham.blogspot.com/2011/03/update.htmlAttachments:

Haven't been around in a long time but I have the same sort of dilemma I am trying to figure out how to catalog my collection and same how do you count how many items you have exactly. I have been in the planning phases of doing a catalog of my collection for a long time and I am in the process of building a building to house my collection. I estimate my collection between 20k to 30k (I kept track back in the 90s's and had surpassed 6,000 pieces in 96) pieces and that's not counting things like trading cards and small items as separates. It really is a huge undertaking no matter how you look at it if you want to try and catalog a collection. Thanks everyone for your replies and thanks for the insurance advice Batlaw. BatFan - Its nice to see you around here again Lee. It certainly is a crazy undertaking! I think *think* I have my head wrapped around it now. I'm making some decisions as I go along, though. My main motivation is to track everything. Once you get so much, for me at least, I've been forgetting if I have something or if I still have it and what condition its in......argh. I'll keep you all updated over the summer as I undertake this when the weather gets better. I'm thinking about doing a special online diary about the process w/ pics .

Have you SEEN this website?! Of course I'm OCD! lol.
I know its a huge undertaking Joe, but I am really committed to getting it done!
I wanted to know from you other collectors what you think a valid way to count items is. Obviously you can't count each individual card as an item you have to count it all together as one to be reasonable.....what types of things can you think of that might need to be gruoped together?

Alright guys, after years of collecting I'm going to FINALLY organize and log my items. Back in 2004 I surpassed 3,000 items...I'm not sure where I am currently, but its large to say the least.
My question is this...its a huge undertaking, so I want to do it the right way. I'm going to photograph everything and create a visual log too..but how do YOU count your items? For example, I won't count each trading card in a set, I will count a set of cards as one item..etc. What special exceptions and provisions do you make?

I'm pretty sure thats based on a pin-up. They used to have them on the back cover of the comics a lot.

Batlaw - depends on the McDonalds. The ones in our town, for example, charge you $3 for the toys.

lol i think im a bit late but yeah, im interested in the movie news, if i did it, would it just be batman movie news, Comic movie news, or Everything??? We're mostly interested in batman character related news, but if something huge came up, of course we could cover it. IE: new Superman movie announced, that sort of thing. You're both welcome to join up! I'm looking for reporters to scan the net daily looking for good stories. PM me if you want to chat more about this. Matt

Well, thats kinda up to you. I don't think selling them would bring in an awful lot of $$. You can certainly trade here or give them away. Many fans have given away their extra loot to others on these boards, which is always very cool!
