I was recently surfing Toon Zone and found some pictures from the kids WB March 13th 2004 preview of The Batman. On the second colum from the left and four pictures from the top there is an image of a fight scene between two combatants, one having frightful white hair and the trademark "spiral" markings on his clothing as does the Joker on his straight jacket. Some of the facial features resemble him as well. Please have a look at wf.toonzone.net/WF/thebatman/episodes/kidswbprev/Strange...

Well, They could just be 2 henchmen of the Joker. On the official Batman site www2.warnerbros.com/thebatman/ you can read in the joker’s profile: “Henchemen: Punch and Judy” That would be an explanation. Besides... He has a beard …..God, I hope they didn’t screw up the Joker’s orgin…

Glad to hear that Matt, you can really see the similarities. I also noticed that one pic (third from left, second row) looks like the forward view of a Batplane. Batman himself looks to have a slightly different facial structure both in the clip and the following layouts.

i can answer that, darthm. they just show joker falling into the chemicals. no batman... he's just falling. joker says something like "all it takes is one rotten day. in my case, a rotten day and a chemical bath", when recalling the event.

Nice picture. Aside from the bleaching, did the chemicals also happen to deprive him of the ability to wear shoes?

Thanks Ender! The The Rubberface of Comedy sounds like one of the best "The Batman" episodes yet!

Nice picture. Aside from the bleaching, did the chemicals also happen to deprive him of the ability to wear shoes? I don't know why everyone seems to care so much that Joker doesn't wear shoes. I really don't care at all...he is insane, and it helps make him look that way, IMO. Sorry, but I just don't get the negativity. And I'm not trying to pin you down specifically, DisgruntledGremlin, I'm really talking to everyone.

Because, Joker is a civilized man. So far the only chracters that didnt wear shoes were Joker and Manbat. And manbat is technically a monster and cant speak unless hes normal. Joker on the other hand is still human. And no one likes to see a really white persons feet. He could step on glass for all I know.

Good point, altho I really don't think of The Batman's Joker as civilized. More like primal.

Regardless of which interpretation of him you're referring to, the man is insane. he's lost touch with reality. I don't think its too far a cry that he might not care about wearing shoes when he's um...INSANE lol. Its a method, much like Banes skin color to show rage, used to illustrate his insanity to the audience....keep in mind one of the primary things about The Batman is that its bringing in viewers new to the mythos.... ....a perfect example...my ten year old niece just came over the other day...I don't get to see her much, but she's WAY cool...well it came out pretty quickly that she and EVERYONE in her class not only watch but LOVE the Batman! I don't know about you guys, but that excited the HELL out of me. (that and I got a "uncle matt you're so cool" for showing her some things about the Batman that you guys haven't even seen lol.)[/shadow]

I couldn't agree more. I feel that the shoeless thing is meant to give Joker an insane look(and, as I said, a kind of primal, animalistic look), much like Bane's red skin and size are meant to give him a powerful look.

Hey - I totally understand the "no shoes" while he's got a straight jacket on, I mean: escaped lunatic, insane, probably rolls around in his own feces - that all works well
What does perturb me is that if Joker bothered to don a nice suit and jacket - WHY would he still remain without shoes. It's like he's a gorilla man or something - WHICH HE ISN'T - it's not like he needs his feet exposed to do acrobatics or something
I think if he's going to have a suit on, then they should give him shoes to go with it - otherwise, sure, straight jacket/no shoes works well and makes sense

Re: The Shoe Thing Yeesh, you know you're putting too much thought into things when... Say what you will about the new design, but when people feel strongly enough to enter a debate about a cartoon character's foot wear, you know you've got a success on your hands : )

the Joker IS insane we all know that but the reason the no shoe thing is waaay wrong is because the joker digs his appearance big time.he is always adjusting his Jacket/coat in the comics and TAS cartoon i believe its the way his twisted personality compensates for the permanent grin and whitewashed skin.but then again The Batman is aiming for a more jester like vision of him as opposed to the playing card version so you can understand it....a bit, but i am against it,he is leaving himself open to athletes foot, verucas, warts, and all manner of situations involving stubbed toes yknow? ;D

My point exaclty! I know Bats foils most of Joker's schemes but surely he could pull off a simple robbery in Foot Locker and swipe a nice pair of Airforce Ones? You would think so........

I just picked up the first three issues of "The Batman Strikes!" for my nephew's birthday, where I caught the Joker (in a referee uniform) wearing a good old fashioned pair of sneakers. Of course the fact that he changed out of his straight jacket in less than a second with no explanation was puzzling, at best, but hey...at least the Catwoman backup was fun.
