just received a buzz from my buddy at wal mart. seems the actual promotion stuff is locked up in the managers office to ward off "premature leaks". he has no idea what the giveaways are. at least we know that there is going to be something. he also said that the areas where the SW3 displays were is being replaced with Begins toys and signage.

Matt, those are the folders for the event.. here's teh info I got:
There will have three module units that the kids will interact with. There will be a "Mission Folder" on that day that will have a secrect message medalion.
Plus, as I said before, more than likely there will be a page to color and a few extra things. And anyone in the Richmond Indiana area, BYTB will have a hand in getting the event underway!
The Units are cool. I got to see one, it gives you facts about Batman. The one I saw talked about the Bat-a-rang. While this will be fun for all collectors, I'm excited about taking my son.

I don't know any more info... But I think the "station spitting stuff out" is not going to happen. The "stations" look like simple cardboard stand up's to me. For Star Wars, Wal Mart had these cardboard "station" stand ups throughout the store, and you would rub your hand on one and it would reveal a message. They also passed out cards when you walked into the store which would show you how to rub bars. To me, it looks like they might pass out these folders with whatever that card/disc thing is when you walk in the store. You then take that disc thing to one of the 3 "stations" and hold it up to the cardboard thing/light and it will give you a message.

Sorry, but it doesn't look like and I don't think Wal Mart would blow the money to make Batman Begins promo vending machines and pass things out for free. Who said anyhting about "vending machines" ?? The units have a botton that you press, it then gives information about The Batmobile, Batarang, and the Utility Belt.

this from superherohype:
'GrandMasterDonny' sent the complete details on what you can expect at your local Wal-Mart stores for Batman Begins on June 18th:
Batman fans will be given Top Secret Batman Mission Folders by the People Greeter. The mission statement inside will direct the Batman fans to Batman Interactive Retailtainment Modules found throughout the store. The modules should be located in the following departments: Bakery, Boyswear, Toys, and Domestics. Once at the Interactive Modules, Batman fans will learn about Batman's hi tech gadgets by viewing backlit blueprints or listening to pre-recorded messages. Also on June 18, in conjunction with Kodak Picture Maker, Batman fans will be given the opportunity to take their photo with a Batman standee in the photo department.

The whole promo box was sitting out and opened so I had to peak. One of the "modules" for the batbelt was out and operable. It had a single working button and goes thru a series of audible info blurbs about the origin of the belt as Waynetech gear, Batman's modifications and specific gear. The whole thing was ~2.5' by 6' high. The giveaway folders (handed out by the greeters at entrance) are smaller than I guessed...playing card size and the disc is ~silver dollar size. (I snagged 2..mea culpa) It looks cool and 3d held up to light but I can't see the secret message that's mentioned. Maybe it requires a colored light?
Also, I wonder if the 6/18 date was based on the original 6/17 movie release?

from their site Visit your local Wal-Mart store on Saturday, June 18, to receive your top-secret Batman mission. With your task in hand, explore the world of Batman — the Batmobile, Utility Belt, Batsuit and more! Fans can also swoop into the Photo department and take photos with Batman using the Kodak® Picture Maker. You'll also want to check out the Wal-Mart Toy department for exclusive Batman Begins toys.

I chatted up several management staff and offered up everything but my first born child and got nowhere! Told it was flat out "Impossible"! Way ta go!

My wife can be very persuasive. She simply reminds them that we spend upwards of 800.00 or more a month there and they can be very accommodating. We are lucky enough to live in a town that has many options when it comes to shopping. In Orlando or the surrounding vicinity we have 5 toys r us, 6 super walmarts, 8 targets(6 super),and 3 kmarts. Most of the store personnel are very nice as long as you dont bother them too much.

Same here. The last thing there certainly no lack of are such stores and thats not counting the Misc. other outlets such as Shopkos and new "super grocery stores" trying to compete buy carrying similar mech as walmarts etc.
Most Walmart staff stated they were simply not allowed to sell those particular displays. Other members stated because their "contract" with the distributer / manufacturer was they had to pay a deposit for them and regardless were "required" to return them. I even offered to possibly pay the "deposit" to no avail. And they had no clue what I was talking about when it came to the "coins".

Of the 4 Walmarts in my area only one had any of this stuff out. It seems like the others just blew off the promotion. One store employee told me he knew where the stuff was in back but had no idea when they planned to put it out. I'm glad I opened the box and helped myself when I did.
