First, a simple custom -- the Batman unmasked. This was made by popping the heads off the Zip-Action Batman and the Bruce Wayne figures, then switching them. Very simple, but effective. Next, the black gloves and 'frosted tips' of the 6-inch Robin's hair bugged the snot out of me. So I painted them. BTW, Robin looks great with my DC Direct Impulse and 'Return of Superman' Superboy. The original Young Justice together again! Finally, some Teen Titans customs. A Starfire was repainted to make Blackfire. Cyborg's left arm was replaced with a sonic cannon. And the figure that took the most work, Robin as the Red X. Unfortunately, the roll of film with the 'progression' photos was damaged beyond repair. Nevertheless, I wrote the simple step-by-step recipies up, which you can find on my meager Customs page: Also on the destroyed roll of film were the photos of my first customs from ages ago, two Jokers. So I'll be re-taking those pics, along with the long-promised The Batman Joker with Two Left Feet figure and my repaints of the 4.75-inch Mattell Batman and Batgirl. Keep watching!

Animated Clark Kent, made by switching Clark's head on Bruce Wayne's body. Bruce's head then went to Clark's old body. Coming soon (hopefully as early as Wednesday), Robin and Terra as Slade's Apprentices! Also, with some trepidation, my first attempts at custom Jokers, made many years ago.

First off, thanks to everyone for the comments! You're encouraging me to do more. I already have part of an idea for another 6" Robin figure. Also, I agree with FaithfulButler. Just start small, maybe with a repaint. That's really all I've been doing, with a little filing and sanding sometimes. Once I discovered how easy it is to switch heads (most of the time), things really started happening. Just to show you how far I've come, here are my very first attempts at customs, from way back in '89 or '90. On the left is the Kenner Joker from the first movie, which was a dreadful pink color (I should have photographed my original Joker as well, but everyone probably knows what it looked like). I tried to paint it in colors more true to the comic. Unfortunately, that was a decade ago, and since the figure had been stored in a box with other figures much of that time, the paint has chipped off in places, and the original face paint (which I didn't paint over) was some sort of heat-sensitive paint. Dip him in cold water, and the white would turn a Caucasian flesh color. Over the years, the paint has permanently changed. Ah well. On the right was a Beetlejuice figure. All I did to make him into a Joker was paint his hair and a bit on his face (in particular the lips), as well as his vest. Again, the paint has chipped off quite a bit. Anyway, without further ado (but with much embarassment).... So you see, I started really small, simple repaints. Anyone with a little patience can do that! Nowhere near the sort of work that many others put into their customs, but you hafta start somewhere, right?
