Dr. Doom asked, “Are you sure your machine can control the minds of the SHIELD agents aboard this Helicarrier?”
Red Claw replied, “I am sure, Doctor.”
Dr. Doom said, “What is the status of the mission?”
Red Claw answered, “J. Jonah Jameson and Rupert Thorne have put out substantial rewards for the two. This will keep them, and any other potential hero out of our hair.”
Dr. Doom said, “Since you hired three ‘experts’ for this mission, I hired my own. Meet Stunner, Molten Man, and Chance.”
Red Claw examined the three. “Are you sure they can handle this?”
Dr. Doom said, “Don’t worry. They are Plan ‘B,’ in case our targets are getting too close and haven’t been captured. I sent our imposters out again. This time, to a government facility.”
Red Claw exclaimed, “Are you crazy? They could get captured!”
Dr. Doom said, “Of course they can, but I heard a rumor that the anti-terrorist organizations SAFE and GOOD are allying to capture our adversaries. This will raise the stakes. It is worth the risk.”
Red Claw replied, “Perhaps you are right. Who is SAFE and GOOD sending out tonight?”
Dr. Doom pleasure could be seen in his eyes.
Batman crept along the roofs of Manhattan Island. His mask radio went off. He asked, “What is it?”
Robin’s voice replied, “I’ve got some bad news. You and Spider-Man were seen again at a military installation. You made off with quite a few materials. I have a feeling this won’t help your popularity.”
Batman grunted. “Who could these imposters be?”
He heard some gravel crack behind him. Batman said, “I’ll call you back.”
He heard the person move closer and closer. He waited until just the last second, then spun around and blacked a strike to face.
His attacker he recognized as Black Cat. She said, “You’re the one whose framed my spider.”
Batman replied, “We’re working together to clear our names.”
She said, “I know about your reputation Batman. You not fooling me.”
She jerked her hand away and kneed Batman in the stomach. Batman backed away and blocked another kick. He grabbed her leg and flipped her over. She scratched at his chest, but he punched her in the chin. She spun around threw a punch, but Batman caught it. Just as he was about to throw another punch, something caught his arm.
Spider-Man said, “Cool it, partner. She doesn’t know.”
Batman released Black Cat’s arm.
Spider-Man said, “Thanks, Cat, but he’s with me.”
She said, “Sorry, Spider. Is there anything I can do?”
Spider-Man replied, “Yeah, spread word of our innocence. Though, I’ll doubt it will help with the police, SAFE, or GOOD.”
She said, “Got it.” She ran to the edge of the roof and jumped off.
Spider-Man asked, “Do you have any hunches?”
Batman replied, “Our best bet is to go to Tricorp and view their security tapes. That will be our best bet.”
Spider-Man said, “You’re right, let’s go.”
Batman lowered himself with his rope. He started to cut a hole with his knife, but Spider-Man said, “Wait. There’s danger all along this level.”
Batman was curious about how Spider-Man could sense danger. Batman replied, “What about the next?”
Spider-Man climbed up and said, “We can use this air-vent.”
Batman climbed up and pulled out his welder. He melted the grate off and they both climbed inside.
They came to the security room. Batman tossed three gas bombs down. They ignited. Batman could hear people fall to the ground. He pushed the vent open and jumped down.
Spider-Man said, “Generally, I just wait till they leave.”
Batman said, “We may not have the time.” Batman went to a filing cabinet. He pulled it open and said, “Let’s see what we have here.” He flipped through the different cassette tapes. At last, he found one labeled the appropriate date. He said, “This is it.”
He walked over to a VCR and pressed it in. Both heroes watched as they saw themselves break into Tricorp and steal various materials.
Batman looked at his imposter and said, “That’s not my belt.”
Spider-Man looked closer at it. “That’s Chameleon’s belt!”
Batman asked, “Is that one of your powers?”
Spider-Man watched himself fire his arm out and grab three guards.
He said, “No.”
Batman said, “There’s only one person who can morph like that, Clayface.”
Red Claw replied, “I am sure, Doctor.”
