I've seen some fantastic customs and many mention decoupage as the way they did the character's symbol.
I'm working on a custom minimate and I'd like to have a high quality symbol on the front and back of the figure - I think decoupage would be the way to go from what I've seen, but I'm clueless as to how to do it. Anyone have any tips/suggestions on where I can learn to do it?

you know Jeff my wife is really good at decoupage, so let me ask her if she'd have any advice!

The Deco route is a good one but I personally have a hard time with it (just not that tallented lol) The results can be brilliant but it takes time to do and time / practice to master..as well as supplies and materials. I would recomend, especially for like a minimate "chest emblem", using model decal paper (Testors?). A bit quicker and easier with excellent results IMO. Most walmarts and the like have in their hobby section a "starter kit" for around 5-6$ that has samples of bothe clear and white (pref) paper, instructions, can of sealer Etc. Or, some wlamarts or hobby shops carry just the paper. but the paper usually runs 5-6$ a pack plus then the sealer? Or even still, jsut use reg label paper which looks fine (as on my BB mini custom). That too could be deco'd or just "glazed" w/ a bit o' glue to blend the "edges" if you didnt want them to stand out?

Not to dispute Batlaw, but I find it much easier than that. At least the way I do things. (Which, by admission, may not be decoupage in the strictest sense of the French word.)
I simply cut the emblem from the paper it's printed on. (Preferably laser printer, so the colors don't run.) Then apply some Mat Gel Medium to the back (it's like clear acrylic paint). Slap the emblem on. Then brush more Gel Medium over the emblem. It's dry in a few seconds. Once the figure is sprayed with Testor's Dullcote... end of story!
Just my two cents.

I've used the same method as Casimir myself, quick, easy and so far successful.I always meant to do it the way Batlaw does but laziness and impatience always gets the better of me.

I'm with Batlaw on this one. By making water-slide decals one gets a super thin emblem with no visible edges.

I'm going to swing by Walmart today and give the waterslide decal a shot. Decoupage sounds like it would work better with a large - single emblem, like Batman's bat or Superman's S - this one is going to have legs, so it would take a little more work cutting it out than I want to do.
Thanks for the input everyone!
