On 28 March 1966, the third of ABC's legendary crime-fighting triumverate of crime shows to debut in 1965-66 aired for the first time on American television. The Avengers began its run with the episode "The Cybernauts."
The series might seem off topic, except that there are some tie-ins with Gotham. First of all, Emma Peel has served as a major role model for the current Catwoman/Selina Kyle. And, Michael Gough, who played Alfred Pennyworth in the 1989-97 movies, had two guest roles on the series.
And I would even make the point that Julie Newmar's Catwoman prepared me for Mrs. Peel. I first saw the series on 20 January 1967, and have enjoyed it ever since.

Thats cool. Especially about Mr. Gough! And I'm not at all surprized Mrs. Peel was an inspiration for the TV's version of Catwoman. Though personally I just never "got" the Avengers. I always classified it as being an "aquired taste" or a "you either get it or you dont" kinda show... and I'm one who just never understood what the appeal was? Of course I feel that way about many things lots of other people consider "classics" and no doubt many more people dont "get" or understand such things I may like lol
