Joss Whedon has posted a little update on the Wonder Woman movie on the Whedonesque message boards: "And since I haven't posted (anything real) in some time let me bring y'all up to speed. The Brothers Warner HAVE read Wondy Gal, and are arranging a meeting to tell me that it is a perfect crystalline gem and I must not change a word, nay, not a syllable. I'm certain that's how it will go." Source: whedonesque.com/?comments=11198#138754

Im really anticipating this movie. I hope it does really well. Also hope we get some sort of figure/toy line out of it. Even if they are nothing but like the old Sailor Moon figures.

I am still skeptical of the Wonder Woman movie. I heard that they aren't going with any of the villains she has in the comics. That is ignoring a part of the source material. I hope they can get it right.

I have my doubts about Wonder Woman doing as well as Superman Returns and Batman Begins. She is not as well known of a superheroe as her male counterpart, but is probably the best known female superheroe. And the other female superheroe movies, i.e. elektra and catwoman didnt do very well. But lets hope a good script and a great charecter can pull it off.

Well Ive heard that although the movie isnt using pre-existing villians, the villians would be based on greek mythology. So they wont be to far off mark. And I think this movie is in good hands with Whedon.

I'm always going to try and stay positive and hopeful, but nothing Ive heard so far has given me much faith on this one This particular blurb doesnt overwhelm me confidence in how seriously Whedon is taking the job?

The problem with both Elektra and Catwoman was that they relied too much on sex appeal for people to see the movie rather than just taking the time to make the movies good. I just pray that Woner Woman does not fall into that same category.

The problem with both Elektra and Catwoman was that they relied too much on sex appeal for people to see the movie rather than just taking the time to make the movies good. This is a good point. While WW should have sex-appeal, I'd much rather see WB focus on establishing her as a strong leading character (ie: Ripley from Aliens, Sarah Conner from Terminator 2). With the box-office failures of Catwoman and Elektra, I hope WB recognizes that while 'sex sells', when it comes to rabid comic fans, strong story telling and character developement always comes first.

The problem with both Elektra and Catwoman was that they relied too much on sex appeal for people to see the movie rather than just taking the time to make the movies good. I just pray that Woner Woman does not fall into that same category. I'd say the biggest problem with both of those is that they went so far off the path of who and what those characters were supposed to be. Catwoman stupidly seemed to think just trading on the name while throwing most everything else away would be a good idea, while Elektra was toned down and gutted so much that she became a mere shadow of what she could and should have been. Making some changes in the tansition from one medium to another is sometimes necessary, but if you lose the spirit of the character you're supposed to be bringing to big screen life then you're very much screwed, and then it doesn't much matter what else you do. Hopefully Whedon will smart enough to remember that. We'll see. Sev.
