WARNERS BRINGING TEEN TITANS TO THE SCREEN
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Add the Teen Titans to the growing list of movies based on DC Comics that are in the works, this according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The trade reported today that Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to bring the popular DC property to the big screen, with Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster through producing through their Weed Road banner, and Mark (Superman/Batman, Battlestar Galactica) Verheiden attached to write the script.
While The Hollywood Reporter gives a brief rundown of the team’s history, makeup and statue at DC Comics, its report offered very little in the way of cast details, aside from saying that Nightwing is reportedly in the mix of heroes. Nightwing's inclusion - rather than Robin's - may be a telling sign of what's to come in the film, as projects that cross properties will face issues with character use, as "Robin" is attached to the Batman franchise, "Superboy" would likely be connected to the Superman franchise, "Wonder Girl" with the struggling Wonder Woman film project, and likely, "Kid Flash" with the Flash film, which is continually trying to find its feet. As such, various characters, while they may appear together in comics, may not be able to appear in the film version of their team, as different production companies hold the rights and control of the characters in film.
Of course, with the Titans, this may not be a huge issue, as Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, Jericho, Terra, and literally dozens of other characters (both from comics and the animated series) are not attached to other, larger franchises.
While the franchise has enjoyed a renewed popularity at DC, thanks to Geoff Johns' stories on the series, the Titans perhaps reached their largest audience when they starred in their own animated series on Cartoon Network which lasted for 65 episodes from 2003-2006. The heroes are slated to make a return to animation as part of DC/Warners' direct to DVD animated movie line in 2008 in an adaptation of "The Judas Contract" storyline. Long-time Titans comic writer Marv Wolfman is adapting that story for animation.
The announcement of the film version is the latest in what seems to be a trend of studios looking to move from single-hero superhero films to “team-based” or multiple hero projects, as it has already been announced that film versions of DC’s Justice League, the Doom Patrol, Watchmen, David Goyer's "SuperMax," and Marvel’s Avengers are in various stages of planning or very early pre-production. Smallville led the way in this regard for DC, with various teen versions of its popular adult heroes appearing on the CW television series.
Additionally, the Teen Titans film is the latest comic book movie project announced for Goldsman and Weed Road, as he also is working on film versions of Doom Patrol and The Losers, as well as Tonight He Comes, starring Will Smith. Goldsman told THR that he intends for the film to be consistent in tone with Warners’ more recent comic book film projects such as Batman Begins, Superman Returns and Watchmen, which is important to comic book and genre fans, as Goldsman wrote both Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, with the Joel Schumacher-directed latter reviled in the eyes of many fans as the film that stopped Warner's Batman film franchise cold.
Jessica Goodman and Jesse Ehrman are overseeing for Warners, while Gregory Noveck is overseeing for DC Comics.

This has the potential to be a great franchise in it's own right but to me it justs smells like desperation for DC, Teen titans and shazam in the works and not even one word on some possible DC all stars (Green lantern,Flash, etc) What are they thinking? I would love to see this movie get made but DC is giving me no reason to look forward to any of their upcoming flix cuz some of them are probably never going to happen.

If DC can make it work, then I say go for it.

I hope they work this out. It seems like every other week, there is an announcement of another DC based movie. Right now, I think I'll believe it when I see it. As of now, only two real DC properties have been put out there: Batman and Superman. Now we are supposed to be getting the JLA, Teen Titans, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and a whole bunch more. I've been waiting a year now for a Flash movie. I really want to see a Flash movie as I find him to be an interesting hero with good villains. I hope all of these heroes get a great movie, but for right now, I will believe it when I see it.

[glow=red,2,300] I have confidence in Dc, why do warner bros need to make a new franchise when they are making millions of the harry potter, when they have settled down, WB will start to make them, and dc have had far more better written movies than marvel, the last film I looked foward to from marvel was x-men 2, but still cant wait for films like THOR and LUKE CAGE yeah right Im joking i mewan THOR LOL man that gave me a few laughs this afternoon[/glow]

DC should really organize it's priotities because if they make a teen titans movie before a flash flick there is something wrong here. Marvel announced that they were making an iron man movie and they revealed the director a month later almost the entire movie had been cast. I don't see dc doing that, they have yet to even cast the flash and now they are trying to force feed us the titans?I love the flash and i am sooo dissapointed that they are not hunting for these films to get made with the sudden rebirth of comic book popularity. Oh and Jack ups i have no clue where you got Luke cage but that movie is never going to happen...Thor however WILL because they plan to make an avengers movie in 2010 and they have already signed on Robert Downey jr and Edward norton as iron man and hulk respectively in that movie. By next year marvel will be announcing the cast for captain america and Thor. Click here

[glow=red,2,300]Again, Warner Bros arent going to start anew franchise when they already have a few to finish, also thor lol THOR plus the hulk once announced quickly after months of secret negotitions, and was announced quick so people wouldent moan thinking about the last hulk film, last hulk film lol avengers film , the justice league would do much better, plus many of the avengers seem very corny, e.g thor, ant-man - wasp and all these characters make me feel alittle silly when thinking about their film oncarnations, plus both these films wont hit for years yet and are only planned so far(might not happen if delayed) lets just hope marvel can add a few decent films to the super hero genre for once, and not givve the genre a bad name due to bad films.[/glow]

Dont reject the source material(ant man wasp thor) because at least marvel's sticking to it and actually getting their movies made!!! (when did superman have a kid?) the marvel slate under the new ceo is this: Iron Man (2008) The Incredible Hulk (2008 - distributed by Universal Studios) Ant-Man (2009) Captain America (2009) Nick Fury (2010) submariner( ) Thor (2010) The Avengers (2011) -possibly an Iron fist movie starring Ray park(Toad, X-men) the only reason they are making shang chi and cloak and dagger is because lions gate has already bought the rights and can make those movies without marvel's consent.

That's great news about a Teen Titans fim and possible franchise. And if they do it as a Franchise they should start from the beginning, and use Robin, not Nightwing...
But the team needs to have Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, KidFlash, & Beast Boy....
I am also excited because with a Teen Titans movie it means Deathstroke!!!

Teen Titans is a DC franchise, last time I checked, which means that DC is getting it's material made. On top of that, Marvel has a track record for releasing over-the-top, critically-panned movies in favor of decent, well-rounded fims. Hulk, Ghost Rider and Elektra are included in that list. Even fans have rejected a lot of what Marvel's putting out. They're trying too hard to release movies, and not hard enough to release high-quality films that fans and generic audiences can enjoy. The only exception to this has been the X-Men and Spider-Man movies, and even after they hit the third installment they severely lagged in quality. If you really wanted DC to speed up production, we'd have a Green Lantern movie starring Jack Black and a Superman movie starring Nicholas Cage and Beyonce Knowles. Warner Bros. has been working on films based on Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash for years. Obviously, they're on the radar, and WB intends on making them eventually. After shooting themselves in the foot with how the Superman and Batman franchises ended up, DC has been working hard to bring some quality to their franchises, whereas Marvel is all about making money-- and I'd rather wait years and years for a good movie than complain for years and years about a terrible one.

DC is not one to talk and they do not have well written movies!(batman and robin, superman3,4,5, and superman returns were all boring horrible movies.) At least marvel is doing what they say they are and not just building up hype for abandoned projects.Critics may not have liked ghost rider or elktra(electra shouldnt have been made i'll give you that) but ghost rider stuck to the source material and very few marvel movies have strayed from the source (teh marvel characters are cheesy, Wonder twins anyone!! And about every other person in dc has the name lad.)

And about every other person in dc has the name lad.) I don't care if Ghost Rider stuck to the source material. If a movie ends up as bad as it was, then the source material[-- whether it's a comic book or a script or something else-- obviously wasn't good enough to begin with, and therefore it shouldn't have been made into a movie. And, to add to a point I made earlier, I'd rather have no movie than an awful movie, and I keep finding myself more and more disappointed with what gets turned out by Marvel and its affiliates. I'm not going to get into a DC vs. Marvel debate with you. You're complaining about DC not making "enough" movies, when they're putting out a new film every year. WB and DC have both picked themselves up from the awful mistakes they made in the past with the Batman and Superman franchises, and, to be honest, they've done a damn fine job of it. Teen Titans is another step forward, and if DC and WB can make it work as a film, then they should do all they can to get it out there, regardless of whether or not a Green Lantern movie gets made first because he's a "more important" character.

I'm in the camp of "believe it when I see it"... and also "if they can pull it off, go for it". Personally I dont see it ever materializing and see it as a pretty tough sell. Too many hurdles IMO. Similarly to the JLA project... easy to do (at least in theory), but near impossible to do "well" or "right". I simply cannot see any way either can be made without "molesting" the integrity of the source material.

So with real talks of a TT film, something that comes to mind is what heroes & villians would everybody like to see??? What age range do we want the Titans to be? What Actors would they get for the movie? Storyline?
As mentioned before I would love to see Deathstroke in the film, he is the perfect villian. And an actor that pops into my head right now to play Slade Wilson would be:
1. Ron Perlman, he already has knowledge of Deathstroke from voicing him in The Teen Titans Cartoon, and has spent most of his career in makeup or behind a mask, so this role wouldn't be any different, and has showed through most of his movie roles that he can mix it up.
As for the Titans I would like to see a young cast maybe in there mid-twenties.
Dick Grayson/Robin/Nightwing - Ricky Ulman Wally West/Kid Flash - Zac Effron Starfire/Kory - Kaley Cuoco

DC should really take their time with their movies or we could get flops like Elektra and Hulk.

There was a thread about a year ago where the discussion was brought up about all of the Marvel movies on the horizon. I remember at that time criticizing Marvel for the number of projects, and characters I had no clue about who were getting movies made. I have to agree with a few people here that Marvel is making too many of their characters into movies, and lets face it, for a while now they haven't produced anything really worthwhile. My only hope is that they finally make Captain America and Iron man turns out to be good.

ironman does sound good and i like the casting. The only thing i do know about an-man is that it will be directed by edgar wright(shaun of the dead,Hot fuzz) and will be an action comedy.I'm just glad all character movie rights reverted back to marvel can make the movies we all can enjoy without the studio tampering with it (does anybody remember the supposed superman sequel written by kevin smith?)

Kevin Smith's Superman wasnt a sequel. It followed WB's plan at that time to incorporate the death of Superman. I remember reading what was posted of it online and it kicked butt IMO. Despite the studio and producer's demands. Then along came Tim Burton...

[glow=red,2,300] Yeah it was good, although WB dident tamper with it at all , so Im not sure what your point is there, I love edgar rights work, shaun of the dead was a master piece, so it should be alright, although I just cant say I have confidence for a Avengers film I dunno I just think about all the goofy characters for a film like thor and the wasp, we'll have to see , [/glow] [glow=red,2,300] Sometimes studio tampering can be good.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]what because of the producer,(I still thiink Peter's is stupid) still s it was down to the director as well, just like Singer recalls having to talk a with WB about Peters and made him see his film, which Peters liked, listen the the Kevin smith about superman on youtube and you can see what side WB was on. Did anyone hear of the James Cameron spidey flick and script, Cameron was going to havea radioactive fly which was then eaten by a spider and then bite peter, lol that would of been really funny hehe[/glow]

I definately want Kid Flash, RaVen & Cyborg on the team, and personally if the Teen Titans could be a Franchise I would love for it to start out using Robin and then have him become Nightwing towards the end of the film or perhaps in the second film.
So my team of Titans that I would like to see would be: 1. Robin The Teen Wonder 2. Kid Flash 3. Cyborg 4. RaVen 5. StarFire 6. Beast Boy
Who would you have as the villian???
