Matt Manning is a regular writer for the Batman Strikes! comic, among many others. He is a frequent visitor of the forum here and a stand up guy. Get to know him a little better w/ this Q&A we conducted a few years ago.
About Matthew K. Manning
work history
"For DC I've written The Batman Strikes! issues 10 and 15 and Justice League Adventures issues 14 and 33. For Marvel I've written issue number 7 of Spider-Man Unlimited. I've also done a lot of work for underground comic publishers Meathaus and Reflux, had poetry published in a few literaray magazines, and sold a short film entitled One Bedroom, Spacious Bath, and God-in-a-can."
a bit about Matthew from the man himself:
I'm from small town Ohio originally, but now I live in Brooklyn, New York with my fiancée Dorothy, a couple curio cabinets full of DC Direct figures, and several recently deceased plants.
'The Batman' Toon & Comic Q & A
favorite episode(s) so far?
Probably Grundy's Night.
favorite character design?
I love the way the Kabuki Twins look, but I think my favorite is the show's take on Firefly. When you add his sound effects to the mix, the character works in a way I don't think he's been able to in the comics.
what characters do you hope to work with on Strikes in the future?
Besides Firefly, I'd love to try writing Batgirl. It'll be interesting to see the show's take on her.
General Batman Q & A
been a Batman fan long?
About as long as I can remember. I became obsessed when the 1989 movie came out and haven't changed much since.
do you regularly read comics?
You have to in my line of work. I think it's important to keep up with the charaters that I have an interest in writing. So for me, that means buying most of the titles that DC and Marvel produces. I think my DC collection alone is at around 7,500 comics.
favorite bat-film?
Batman (1989).
favorite bat-villain?
Ra's Al Ghul. I've always enjoyed the Batman/Talia/Ra's dynamic.
