How important is it to you that your collection displays nicley? After collecting for a while I started to realize that displaying it in an organized fashion would not only make it look great but it would save me a ton of space. I've seen some very small collections that were displayed nicely that looked fantastic while just the opposite is true of big unorganized collections. Thoughts on this?

I spend a lot of time organizing my display room. For me, it's the most enjoyable aspect of collecting Batman. I have shelves grouped by color, time period, scale...and I constantly think about new combinations. I have a few different Batcave displays, a city street scene, an industrial warehouse diorama adapted from a WWF playset, and more...I also like to insert some unrelated female figures into the display (scale appropriate) to create a more diverse look. It's a lot of fun!

I like my collection organized well I gotta say-I have 5 walls in my room and one wall has marvel legends, DCD,Movie Bat figs and Mattel 6 inch on there-the next has,B:TAS,TNBA,TJ/JLA,Secret Wars,Super Powers,BB,S;TAS and JLU,next 2 walls are GI JOE and Star Wars(with all the vehicles and such) then all my 80s/90s stuff like Ghostbusters,COPS,Shadow,Thundercats,MOTU,Starship Troopers,Aliens etc are on another. with various units to hold all my bat vehicles and others like the Shadow cars,Thundertank ECTO 1 etc,Im constantly re arranging but the way I have it now is more space effective-but if JLU continues to grow at this rate-TNBA and S:TAS may have to be moved

[shadow=red,left,300]I try to organize my collection into categories. Quite a few of my Batmobiles and other vehicles are displayed together. All of my loose comic line figs in one group, The Batman in another, BTAS, you get the idea. Carded figs are displayed the same way. All of my food items and candy have their own shelves. Everything else though, well it's a free for all.[/shadow]

I have a rather large collection to fit in my tiny room. The more organized, the better. :-

I've seen some very small collections that were displayed nicely that looked fantastic while just the opposite is true of big unorganized collections. Thoughts on this? I have mine along 5-6 shelves in this alcove right at the bottom of the stairs to my basement; the top shelves are books, the next are knick-nacks...Batmobiles...And, finally, my plastic bins holding 2-to-300 single issue Batman comics... Display is key...If people see your collection just thrown against the wall/ whatever, they probably won't regard it as highly as you'd like them to...remember; presentation is key, even if the content's not too good (I'm looking at you, Stan Lee... ) My collection used to be just thrown together, and, believe me, it looked terrible.

I have cut my collection of figures down quite drastically and am now down to my Batman and some DCD stuff. Even now I am having trouble getting it to look right. I have these lousy pine shelves that are not helping. I seem to spend ages sorting the thigns out only to get nowhere! It is a bit of a downer. I have started to weed out the Bat-variants already!

Myself, like many others here, have a collection that suffers from lack of space. I try to utilize my two shelves (for statues, busts, and snow globes) and my walls (figures, wall statues, and art) to the best of my ability. Another problem of mine is that my collection seems to grow more and more....and my available space in my room stays the same...

Sounds great, Frank! I've done the same thing; the HUSH line, Rogue's Gallery, First Appearance Batgirl and even certain Legends of the Dark Knight villians display well together. Grouping by era is always a cool way to go, too. I have several shelves that are nothing but Golden or Silver Age versions of Bats and his allies or villians, along with the Corgi vehicles from those times. ;D

yup I got the first app Batgirl in their too with the Silver age bats,Robin,Joker Batgirl and 1st app Batman on a raise behind them-it worked real well. The Rogues Gallery supplemented the Hush line so well

The Rogues Gallery supplemented the Hush line so well Right - no repeated characters between the two lines, so Penguin and Croc fit right in with the Hush villians.

I'm all about organization. Of course, as my fiance will likely tell you, I can take that too far sometimes. Eras, shows, artists... I love a good presentation! More of my obsessive need to organize can be seen here: www.pilliod.net/Pages/Articles/collection.htmBut yeah, I can't abide a mess. What's not out on display is neatly organized in boxes and hidden away. C.

Just recently, I was able to get a glass display cabinet ( about 5 ft tall, 4ft wide, 12 in width ). Since carded figures take up more space, i realized not all would fit in.
My solution was that I have to open some carded figures to save space, but this is easier said than done. You see, I have this old recurring dilemma : to open or not to open, that is the question.

Yup. The never ending internal struggle continues for us all. What works for me? if I'm unable to get 2 of something that I would want opened, I try to decide in advance what items I'll be leeving in package and what will be opened...and stick with that desicion. The hard part is dealing with older items that cry for freedom.

[shadow=red,left,300]I've recently faced the same dilemma regarding carded figs. I decided to open up all of my Hush figs. My reasoning was that since they were $15 to $18 apiece, the chances were good that I would never buy another one just so I can have the fig loose, so I might as well open the ones I've got.
I'm really glad I did as the way I have them displayed, looks 10x better than them being in those plain DC Direct boxes. [/shadow]

space has become a new issue for me, we plan on adding a new member to the family which means that i gave up my "bat-room" and moved everything to the basement. i dont mind, i happily make the sacrifice. because of this tho, i really changed my whole view on collecting as far as what i buy and what i open. room wise, it saves space to open the figures, especially if you display, it takes a TON of room if you want to hang carded merchandise. i went thru and chose the figures that i can live with having open and did so. i believe Matt said in another thread that the current after market value of newer stuff hardly ever goes much past the current retail price. its true. unless its some high end collectible that has a low production run, it wont be securing your retirement. lol. since really coming to terms with this i have redone my entire collection display and also regained the joy in collecting Batman merchandise and displaying it.

Roback, I have YET to put my bat-collection on display. I came this close to doing that after buying tall black shelf units (lined with yellow posterboards on the back to show collectibles more visibly) but right now I'm in the process of elminating everything "The Batman" that have been "brickwalling" against my displaying goal. Sorry, /\/\att...yes, I no longer collect "The Batman" as it's become too overwhelming for my completist self. Hopefully it'll be done within the next few months... Guys, keep bugging me and I'll get it done. ;D Regards, Jamison

I on the other hand, opened all my Batman stuff to display only to run out of shelf space and now am hanging carded figs on the wall.
