I know, right? Let me bring up the DCAU World Finest movie when Batman shows up in Metropolis and Superman tells him "I won't have vigilantes in my city." Quite the hypocrit isn't he?

Yeah, it's the big, blue boyscout thing. How many times have they given Superman the key to Metropolis? He's not scary. He saves them from aliens and monsters and super robots all the time. Batman beats the hell out of people and wears a mask, and has inadvertently created or has become the fixation of extremely dangerous people who kill other people, often to get to Batman. Yes, there's some hypocrisy in Supes calling Batman a vigilante, but when it comes down to it, Batman doesn't want to be liked, or trusted, as he has pointed out in movies, comics, and cartoons ever since the late seventies/early eighties. If anything, Batman is good at being disliked, which is what he wants, and Superman is good at being trusted, which is what he wants. No worries, eh?

This is one of the very real and adult themes that has been explored in Dc Comics, imo. The idea that in one city everyone is more naive and bright and the other has a darker and more cynnical outlook. It shows levels of hypocricy and double standards that most definately are relevant to everyday life.
Because Batman lives in Gotham..chooses to operate at night and not be seen he is shunned. But Superman..who by most people's standards would be a larger threat to humanity being an ALIEN and all, operates during daylight, shows himself..shakes hands and smiles nice.
Who are you most likely to keep away from your children..the guy dressed in dark clothes with percings and tattoos or the guy with a polo shirt and nice trimmed hair? Guess what....the one with the polo shirt is more likely to be the true threat..its called overcompensation..something is wrong with you, so you overcompensate in other areas to appear "normal" and well-adjusted.
