All right, I'm sure some of you have already know about this because of the link in my sig, but I thought I'd start a new topic specifically for it.
I am still very depressed that Warner Bros. canceled this show... it was to be composed by Jim Steinman (Famous for "Bat Out of Hell," "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and many more.) But after his musical "Dance of the Vampires" flopped on Broadway (Because they the producers re-wrote the script in an attempt to transform it into a hideous comedy) WB ditched BATMAN, which they had hired Jim to do. It was to be based on Tim Burton's movies, and supposedly even directed by Burton.
Aaaaanyway, my friend Ryan created a "memorial" site for the show,a nd available there are demos, in mp3 format, of some of Jim's songs for the show.
I was so shocked when I started listening to the music... Jim approached this dead-serious, as a dark, gothic rock opera. It works beautifully, methinks.
Just curious to know your guys' thoughts on this, and the music (which I personally love, LOL.)

Well, if anyone wants, Ryan just posted some buttons that I designed... Please use them in your sigs or whatever and support the show. ;D I hope that "Spider-Man: The Musical" will encourage WB to "un-cancel" this wonderful show. PLEASE, Warner Bros! Pretty please???

I heard about it ages ago when it was still in production. Thanks for the link, I've been dying to hear the music. I'll listen later & tell ya what I think. Someone on another board is currently trying to get an indie Batman musical off the ground, thought you might be interested.

Thanks a million... I can't wait to hear your views on the songs, be they positive or negative. And yes, I heard about the indie musical... I'm highly supportive of it, but the producer seemed to imply that there really wasn't going to be many songs, and that Batman wouldn't sing, both of which I'm highly against. Sure, Batman can sing... approach it like Jim Steinman did, as a dark gothic rock opera. To see what I mean, listen to Batman's soliloquy in Jim's version, "Graveyard Shift." But listen to ALL the songs, LOL, it's neccesary to get a full idea of the show's scope. ;D

That is cool. I myself am the author of several musicals, which are currently being produced in various forms.

Whoa, it's be ages since I've been on LOG; sorry about that. But yep, I compose, and also write book and lyrics for my shows as well. My main project right now is "Electricity" a musical version of Frankenstein. There are some songs from it on www.myspace.com/ashtonjaymzI'm uploading some more there soon. What kind of music do you write?

I've listened to it several times. Some of it's great & some of it sucks. Gotham City- the son was a good idea, but it's too calm & it doesn't make the city sound deadly. Land of the pig- it scares the hell outa me, great song. The Joker's song really sucked, it sucks with capital S U C K, it's like a really bad 50's song. If it had been a bizarre waltz it would've been great.

LOL!! This is too much! Too much indeed, after listening to a couple of songs, it has broadway all over it! This would have been very very interesting to hear and see live!

Eeek, sorry about another late response.
I personally like "Gotham City" a lot, but it needs to be cut... Ideally until it's about half as long. In fact, this probably would have been done when the show went into production.
My favorite songs are definitely "In The Land of the Pig, The Butcher Is King" and "I Need All The Love I Can Get" ("Catwoman's Song.") Third would definitely be "We're Still The Children We Once Were" which is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, yet applies to Batman perfectly.
Unfortunately, no, the music isn't on CD or anything, just these (sometimes rough) demos on the website.
As for my own music, well, the genres listed on myspace are Showtunes/Rock/Classical... More often than not I combine all three in my music. I've also composed the scores for two short films. Mainly, musical theater is my thing though.

I knew about Spider-Man, but I didn't know there was a Batman musical in the works too. When I get my speakers fixed, I'll have to listen to the music

I finally got ahold of more of Steinman's work. Bat out of Hell, & Sweeney Todd being definate favorites. I like the music he wrote, but it's not dark enough.
