Cause after seeing it again last night, the cars used in the scene at the Wayne's funeral don't fit in with the timeline if the movie is set in 2005, Bruce is 8 when his parents die, 14 years pass when he comes back for the hearing and then 7 more years away training, that makes him 29 years old, IF the movie is supposed to be set in 2005 then he was born in 1976, parents killed in 1984 but the cars (Cadillac,Mercedes,Lincoln and Oldsmobile) are all from the early 90's.

I've always thought of BB in the not too distant future. Plus, Batman is timeless. I think that is what they were trying to portray.

I'd say it's set in present day(2005).

Futuristic past is also my guess, everything that used to be what seemed to be a bustling economy shattered into slumps that we can relate to today (although not as severely) The cars I think werent an important issue as far as the movie would go.

I'm backing present day. But the car thing didn't really bother me.

I say present day as well. Alot of rich people like the classics and use them in today's world...

I definitely think, that the whole setting is in city caught in the past but the time was/is the not too distant future. That's the nature of Gotham city.

i think it was set "now", whether you watched it 10 years ago, or within the next 10 years. i don't think it matters what the specific date is, but just maybe within 10 years either side of the year of release.
it clearly looks modern-day, unlike the first 2, and Returns in particular.

It's timeless.....Like the City of Gotham........It's not our world....It's DC's or the Batmans.........

Its a multi-verse thing...see, on earth 2 the cars we saw in the 90s were already produced in the 80s!
sigh. Sorry a dork moment there.

What bothered me was when Bruce came home from college for the trial, Rachel was already working for the DA. Did she skip law school or get out early? Strange....

Rachel did an internship. She was not an assistent DA yet.
