www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=64087-Minute Dark Knight Prologue in December? Source: Superhero Hype! October 15, 2007
Omelette is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures is planning to show a 7-minute The Dark Knight prologue featuring Heath Ledger as The Joker in front of screenings of Will Smith-starrer I Am Legend in IMAX theaters on December 14.
Stay tuned for possibly more on this...My fellow Batfans, our mission, if we choose to accept it and may probably will since you will desperatley want to see the Joker in action, is to buy a ticket to "I Am Legend" on the weekend of Dec 14. Go to the theatre and wait until they show the TDK prologue. When it is over, walk out of the theatre, go to your vehicle, eat some dinner with your family and go to bed, knowing full well you spent your money well in seeing the awesome new Joker instead of Will Smith. Your computer will blow up in... NOW.

Ive read this on a couple of sites. We'll see. Now, Im sure if this happens it will probably end up on the official site, at least it better, but what really is the sense in this? Only in IMAX theatres? So only select people who actually have an IMAX can get a chance to see it? This is just poor marketing to me and not very respectful to all Batman fans. Its a movie, put out a trailer in all movie theatres, dont waste money doing a "prologue" only to show it in a theatre that most movie goers cant go to see it in. This reminds of toy exclusives. We're gonna make an essential part of a line but you can only get it at this particular place to be able to complete it. If you cant then youre out of luck, sorry.
I dont know what it is anymore, but Im finding it very hard to get behind anything new for Batman.

remember with Begins they released that 10-minute clip? was that originally aired as a tv-spot in the USA?
because i saw it on Comingsoon.net for the first, then here in the UK, a special free dvd was given away when vouchers found in certain newspapers were redeemed at HMV stores, which included a couple of trailers and the 10-minute clip.
it does seem elitist to only air it in IMAX theatres, but that may only be the first place it is revealed, maybe after a few weeks it will be in all normal cinemas attached to to same movie?

I will probably just wait for it to be thrown up on the web and check it out there instead of seeing a will smith movie I have no interest in

Like I said above, as soon as the Joker thing is over, leave. Stuff like that has been done before, like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

Wait, If you're going to pay the money, why not just see the movie as well. Seems like a waste of $10.
Now is this going to be clips from the movie, or is it going to be something new only seen in this prologue?

But the money I'd spend would go to the box office of what will be the awful third remake of a terrible, high-strung, overdone low-concept vampire-thriller starring an incredibly overrated actor. And I don't feel like paying close to $2 a minute just to see something that will get bootlegged and thrown on YouTube. I agree with shadowbat. I think this is a horrible marketing strategy, if not for the fact that it's attached to shameless garbage, but because 1) IMAX tickets are so expensive, and 2) there are only a handful of IMAX theaters nationwide. Fans are getting jipped on two levels.

Well, seems as if this had been made official. There will be a 7 minute "prologue" in the IMAX showings of I Am Legend.
Im just hoping this also hits the web on one of the official sites.

It is now being reported that the footage is in fact the first 5 minutes of the film. It is supposed to show why this mysterious new thug becomes the most feared man in Gotham.

Don't forget guys... Nolan said he wanted to use the IMAX camera to give the Joker a grand entrance into the Begins Universe!
So maybe the first 7 minutes is a scene shot using the IMAX camera.

I dont know what it is anymore, but Im finding it very hard to get behind anything new for Batman. They want to make IMAX a contender these days for something other than Antarctica documentaries. It won't belong before Imax theatres are as common as DVD's. I have no doubt though, that the day it comes out in IMAX it will be released on the promo sites. They have to know that a theatre only release would be just plain dumb as hell because it would piss off comic and mainstream fans too.

what's to stop them releasing it only in IMAX theatres for a week or two, and then putting it on the 'net on official sites? that way, those who shelled out got the buzz of seeing it on the big screen, and before anyone else, but all the other fans don't get jipped either.
if they only show it in IMAX, then it's a stupid marketing tactic, but if there's just a small delay between showing it in IMAX and then to the general population, then that's ok, in my opinion.
