You know I heard this too, just the other day. Would be really cool if they could keep the characters consistent, which is why I would much rather see the Black Canary in it with Green Lantern, Hawk Woman, The Flash and Supes.
Only problem is, you can't just say they are mutants and thats how they have powers, there would be a lot of backstory that has to be told.

This was on Superhero hype this morning...
It's Official: Justice League Moving Ahead at WB Source: Variety September 20, 2007
Warner Bros. is moving aggressively ahead with the big screen adaptation of DC Comics' Justice League of America, with George Miller (Happy Feet) on board to direct, reports Variety.
The project, which is in the initial phases of casting, is a pre-strike priority for the studio, which needs a superhero tentpole in 2009.
Still, making all the pieces fit has been complicated by overlapping superhero projects in the pipeline, since "Justice League" features a pantheon of superheroes, including Superman and Batman.
Batman and Superman are active properties for the studio, though the next installment in the Superman franchise has taken a backseat to "Justice League" in part because Warners is so keen on the "Justice League" script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.
"Justice League" will likely feature the characters of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman.
The project is so complicated -- and casting dependent -- that even those deeply involved in the project are holding their breath until production begins.
"They're working very hard to get it to happen," said one party close to the project. "But there are so many characters it's complicated."

Thanks for the news Professor Crane! This sound like it is coming along greatly! I can't wait to see it! And Hey, if it's supposed to be releases in 2009, then it will hold us off until Batman 3 comes out (because by then Batman 2/ The Dark Knight will be out, YES!!).

I think if there is a DC hero that deserves a movie or his time to shine it should be GL, Hal Jordan in particular!

As long as they get a new Batman, it'll be alright. I don't want Bale's realistic Batman to run around saving the world with an alien in blue tights, an amazonian princess, a fish man, and a fast guy in red spandex (no offense to any of them).

We'll see how this develops. Obviously the studio will be heavily involved in any final decision on the team lineup and casting.
I always thought the original lineup of seven from the Justice League cartoon was genius. Using Hawkwoman instead of Hawkman added another female to the group, keeping Wonder Woman from being the sole, "token" woman in the group. As much as I love Hal Jordan, going with John Stewart got someone non-white into the group without resorting to adding a B-list Black Vulcan/Apache Chief/Samurai kind of charcter, or altering the ethnicity of one of the other principles.

I would say that there will be some sort of GL in the movie. It is my guess that they are still figuring out the lineup. I have to say, I think JL had a great lineup and that they should consider using it. Despite the numerous complaints about John Stewart being GL, I think he fits in to a team better than Hal. It will be interesting to see exactly who they decide on using for all of the characters. The big three are a given. I would kind of like it if we got a surprise in the lineup. The number one thing for me is that they put Martian Manhunter in their. So far he has missed out on most all mass media. It is about time he got his due.

Jessica Biel in Talks for Justice League! Source: Variety September 25, 2007
Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' all-star superhero film Justice League of America, reports Variety.
The potential deal marks the first piece of casting to emerge from the DC Comics-based ensemble project, which is expected to feature Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman in addition to Wonder Woman.
George Miller (Happy Feet) will direct the big screen adaptation. Kieran and Michele Mulroney wrote the script.
Biel is filming the indie drama Powder Blue, which wraps in October, opposite Forest Whitaker. She will then segue to A Woman of No Importance, based on the play by Oscar Wilde. That leaves room on the actress' schedule for "Justice League," which Warner is fast-tracking as a project before any potential strikes. However, the film's likelihood hinges on the studio's ability to assemble a cast of superheroes in a small window of time.
The trade says the studio declined comment, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals.

Biel?? She doesnt look like an amazonian princess to me. If she was in one, it would probably be a new generation kind. Gosh I wish Diane Lane was 10 years younger, I think she's be great.

GL's been confirmed, It's John Stewart, 2 actors have read for the part so far, & I'm no too excited about that, because they where rappers, they talk in monotone all the time, how the hell can you get them to act? ;D Fortunately Ryan Gosling has passed on the Bats role, Bale isn't too happy, he doesn't want WB to drive the mainstream Bat flicks into the ground. My major concern is Batman, he should be a grizzled vet of the war on crime, not as >:(ish as in DKR, but similar. I heard Bats & Clark have a major fight, which I'm all for, I'm definately looking forward to it.

This was on tv.com...
Smallville star rumored to go big screen as Superman in Justice League of America flick.
It's not often that a piece of quasi-information about a movie that won't be out for another three years would be worth mentioning, but when it involves Smallville and could send its rabid fan base in a tizzy, the rules change.
Welling may not be frumpy old Clark for too long. The latest from the rumor mill claims that Smallville star Tom Welling has been approached to play Superman on the big screen. However, he won't be the follow-up to Brandon Routh, who played the Man of Steel in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns.
The role is for Superman in the untitled Justice League of America movie, which is currently in its development infancy. The news comes from movie site IESB.net, which claims to have gotten the information from "studio sources."
In Smallville, Welling plays a young Clark Kent learning to deal with his powers before he officially becomes Superman. Welling has yet to wear the Superman ensemble (cape, tights, and the like) or fly, two things that would almost certainly change should he be in the JLA flick.
Welling has yet to formally accept the offer, as IESB says he has only "been approached" for the part. However, the site also says that people in the Smallville would OK the move and shoot the show around Welling's movie schedule.
And if that sounds too good to be true, it may be. Superman Homepage, a Web site devoted to the caped one, claims that Smallville creator Al Gough said Welling has not been in talks about the JLA movie and it "won't happen." Welling is under contract with Smallville through an eighth season.
Other Hollywood types rumored to be attached to the Justice League of America movie include Ryan Reynolds as The Flash and George Miller behind the camera.
Representatives at CW were unaware of the rumor and had no comment. Attempts to reach Welling's publicist were unanswered as of press time.

It will be interesting to see the casting of this one. The trouble with casting an ensemble such as this is that if the movie is successful, some stars will ask for more money and not feel as obligated because they aren't the lead actor/ actress. That is what is wrong with Hollywood.

I think they need to go entirely with wirtual unknown actors accross the board. Unless they already have seriously clear and concrete plans and vissions for individual character's "spinoff" movies far in advance. They dont want "competing" versions of their characters in theatres. Ryan Reynolds was born to play the Flash imo. I would hate to see Jesica Beil(?) as WW. She doesnt look the part at all imo and I just dont see why shes so popular or considered so attractive? I dont think so. Im liking the rumor of Lawrence Fishbourne(?) for Manhunter too (but likely all rumor).
This week's EW magazine describes the script as an amalgam of the Grant Morrison's JLA "Tower of Bable" storyline and "Inifinate Crises" by my estimation. They also state "the draft theyve seen remains faithful to the comic book that first appeared in the 60s"? The cast includes Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern (John Stewart). The script is said to revolve around "villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and involves cyborgs called OMACS, who can turn humans into killing machines". The script also supposedly includes "epic battles between Superman and Batman, and Superman against Wonder Woman". The mag also includes some peculiar character descriptions which could possibly offer further insight into the story... such as describing John Stewart as an "architect who designed the Hall of Justice"? "Batman's mistrust of others causes quite a bit of problems for the clan". "Manhunter's mind reading power comes in handy as the villain engages in some mind control" and "Aquaman is not a fan of humans / land dwellers". They name Flash as "Barry Allen" and refer to him as "a cop and the most enthusiastic of the heroes and someone who is just happy to be included"? Although they name him Barry Allen, they also describe him having "ravenous appetite which leads to trouble" (sounds like Wally West to me). Most of this is also reported / confirmed on BoF. I would consider much of this a mix of rumor, limited reporter knowledge of the chaacters and material, and early intel. I imagine its safe to say much is still up for change personally.

Who is Testing for Justice League ? Source: The Hollywood Reporter October 14, 2007
The Hollywood Reporter says that a slew of young actors are testing for the roles of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter in George Miller's big screen Justice League adaptation. The director is seeing 35-40 actors for roles in the Warner Bros. comic book movie from Sunday through Monday.
Included in the casting sessions are: Adam Brody ("The O.C."), Joseph Cross (Running With Scissors), D.J. Cotrona ("Windfall"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse), Michael Angarano (Sky High), Teresa Palmer (The Grudge 2), Max Thieriot (Jumper) and rapper Common.
The trade adds that the cast of NBC's "Friday Night Lights" is well-represented as well, with Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter also among those testing for parts.
Miller is reportedly looking for the young actors to grow into their roles over the course of several movies. The director is due to present his findings to the studio midweek.
