latest from AP wire:
NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.
The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in "Brokeback Mountain" and has numerous other screen credits.

[shadow=red,left,300]No way... that was totally out of the blue.
I actually hadn't seen a single film of his, but from what we saw of him, it looked like he was going to be the best Joker ever.
What a shame... he had his whole life ahead of him as well, just shows how horrific drugs are. My support goes out to his family. Rest in peace Heath.

This is very unexpected and indeed sad. My little nephew told me (he's 10 and we're huge Batfans). He said, "Uncle Jeff, I heard Heath Ledger died....they found pills by him or something." This is very odd, how often to celebs die right before a major release? The only example I think of off hand is Q from the Bond movies. I guess it just goes to show that they're real people (with problems and faults, even though we forget that alot.
I by no means want to cheapen this thread (like the ebay monitoring) but I wanted to mention something. One of these major newsites (msn?) says that he finished Dark Knight and that it will be released July. I don't think it's cold to state that fact. This looks like a grand performance and will be a testament to his talent. I'm glad he finished it (selfish reasons also included of course) because so many stars die in crappier situations. It could have been much worse..........he could've been in between making some stupid straight to video, struggling with his career. Instead, he'll be forever remembered in an awesome role/movie.
One more note. I read recently (maybe here and I've forgot, lol) that he was troubled by playing the Joker. He said it took alot out of him to play such a demented character. This is a sad/bizarre event.

Horrible to lose such a handsome talented human being. By all reports he was a caring attentive father. I hope the role of the Joker will be a great final testament to his career...

I feel very bad for his daughter, his family and friends. I feel bad for the cast and crew of TDK. I feel bad for Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, who must press on with the creation this film that now features his final performance. I feel bad for all of his fans, including the Batman fans who have had this great, building anticipation for July 18, 2008. And I feel bad myself, shocked at the loss of someone so talented and full of potential. Tonight, I'm just a little less excited about the future. May he rest in peace.

I'm still in shock since I found out today. I've been waiting to get on here all day, my husband over took the computer once I woke him up with the news. Coincidently I have been wearing my TDK shirt with Heath Ledger as The Joker for two days now. I'm going to have to wash it tonight and continue wearing for the next few days in his memory. It's funny that the poster of him writing "Why So Serious" on my computer desktop means so much more to me now. My heart goes out to his family and may he rest in peace.

Man... I was speechless. I'm at school at the moment and how do you think I reacted when my English teacher (he's an american) said "Who knows what happaned yesterday? Besides Heath Ledger dying." I still can't believe it........
The line that can't go out of my mind is "...if you're gonna go, go with a smile!" That's what he did...
