Hey Folks, I know that this is not a Batman topic, but here goes anyway... In light of current events, I ask that those of you with the means to pull together and do everything you can to assist people whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. If you haven't acted already, I urge you to join me in delivering immediate help to the people who need it most. One way to do that is to support the relief and recovery efforts of the Red Cross with a personal donation. www.redcross.org/donate/donate.htmlWe can all make a great difference in the lives of those blighted by Hurricane Katrina with a small but heroic action of donating to the Red Cross or other charitable organizations that have the capabilities to make a difference to those who so desperately need it. Please give serious consideration to this call to action. Thank you for your time and consideration, Thomas

This is a fantastic and worthy thread Thomas.
Not to get cheesy...but in the spirit of our beloved franchise..ask yourself what Bruce Wayne would be doing right now! The answer is everything in his power to help.
Please give generously to the Red Cross effort.
Thank you.

I would also add that many companies have matching contribution plans. So say if you contributed $50 Red Cross, the Red Cross will then recieve $100 instead. Check with your employer to see if they do so.

Done.there is a huge effort in Ireland and I and all my family has donated. That's exactly the kind of thing we need to hear. The news here makes it seem like no outside country is offering any assistance (other than Venezuela) and the US is alone in this. Thanks JFC. I'm sure those that have been caught in this will appreciate the effort.

Hopefully I will be heading down there shortly to provide security and humanitarian aid. We are currently forming a 8 man team and hopefully a full 44 man squad to send down to assist. Should be a productive 4-6 month TDY. Ill keep everyone informed with any pertinent updates....that is IF the Captain doesnt decide they need to keep my butt here ugh.

[shadow=red,left,300]The company I work for, Movie Gallery, has just donated 500,000 dollars to the relief efforts as of yesterday. It's great to see so many willing to help with the relief efforts. I'll do my part as well to donate to the relief fund.[/shadow]

Today, the bank I manage raised over $1,000 for relief efforts. My company as a whole has raised $50,000 and we will match our customers donations up to $150,000 with every dime going to the American Red Cross.
Tomorrow my wife and I are volunteering our time to the refugees that have been sent to our hometown of San Antonio. We will distributing much needed supplies, food, etc. to those currently staying at the Alamodome. Not nearly enough, but every little bit helps.
To our Texas members........
As many know, the cities of Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio have become epicenters for the relief efforts, holding anywhere from 25,000 to 75,000 people respectively. If you are in the area, I encourage you to take a few hours and look into any opportunities to lend your time. There are never enough people, and nothing is too little when it comes to helping our fellow man in this time of need.

The employees of my small (less than 200 folks) raised $450 yesterday in an impromptu donation drive. The president and CEO of the company are matching our donations for $1000.
Thanks to all that have donated - for those that can't, please try to donate your time, blood, plasma, bottled water, whatever you can to help out.

Its truly wonderful to hear that some of the corporations are stepping up and helping those in this dyer time of need.
I'm not certain if an how much my company may have donated, but they are housing ALL of their employees and their families until they can recover.

Ugh!! we have only sent 9 people so far....and I dunno how good the odds are that we will send the whole 44 man team. So unfortunately I might not get to go assist.
