Hey all - first post.
I saw that many of you were commenting on the new opening to season 3 of The Batman & miss the theme song from The Edge - I really like that song, but I think the new introduction is absolutely incredible.
I was only born in the 70s, but I still watched the original Batman TV series from the 60s. That was truly my first exposure to batman - not the comics. I have read comics by now, of course - but my "nostalgia feeling" will always come from anything triggering memories from watching the TV show.
The opening to season 3 of the show has so many little nods to the 60s intro that I couldn't help but jaw drop with a "sweeeeet" after I first saw it.
Forgive my "dissection" as it may seem like overkill, but this is the easiest way for me to point out a few things & dang it - I'm going to have fun.
Music - To me, it sounds like a combination of James Bond, Hawaii Five-O, and of course - the original 60s Batman theme. It's amazing how the theme can have such a heavy retro-feel to it yet still seem very ...."hip" (perfect word) for today's style.
Visuals - I'll take you in order of the new opening & compare it to the old opening/closing.
Of course, the batsignal:
What I have dubbed, "the Batpan" :
In both the 60s intro and the new season 3 intro, you hear brass (mostly trumpets) throw out some stinger notes during a "fighting" sequence. The original show has written "comic actions" while the new show does not. Listen during this sequence:
While somewhat of a stretch of a connection, Batgirl gets some of the final "look at me!" at the end of the opening of both shows. The original has her cruise in front of the batmobile on her cycle & the new one has her swinging. (Didn't have an original opening cartoon pic, so you're just gonna have to settle for an Yvonne Craig..... ;D )
There are plenty of other visuals cut to in order to keep the energy level up with the music:
Again - while "The Edge" opening is missed, I can't say that the new one doesn't come in with a bang. (or....even a SOCK! for that matter) The energy just *flows* during the opening sequence & it fits. With Adam West voicing the mayor and the new opening, there is a huge nod to the original series. The intro, along with the great writing, new takes on characters, and just a classy presentation helps make "The Batman" feel very original & adds a fresh take on the world of Batman.
