Just a bit of pointless maundering on my part. The Batman's version of Arkham irks me. It's illogical. Not saying that that really has it diverging from the rest of the show, but really; If you were going to build an institution for mentally unbalanced people would you have the walls be an invigorating and active color like red? :inner-artist grumbling: </pointless ramble>

We really don't have asylums in the sense that they did in the early 20th century anyway, now do we?

Maybe Hugo Strange designed the place.

I like the front design with the gate and that. When I frist saw the sign (The Man Who Would Be Bat), with all of the bats hanging upside down underneath it, my first thought was "Evil. Pure evil." I guess the red symbolizes that...kinda *blinks and goes off to think*

Well IMO I think they should have kept a simple prison like design with no color and the red does seem kind of odd but I guess it doesn't matter XP

I guess making Arkham some all-white typical insane asylum would have been too boring. Outside it doesn't look too bad, but inside it's just weird. The colour orange irritates some people, I sometimes hear water dripping from pipes(renovation time) and the brick walls...what if one of the inmates hits it while having a panic attack? Think of all the lumps...

Perhaps they should use that for the show have one of the inmates hit his head on the brick wall or a pipe and win a big time lawsuit and collect tons of money, buying his way out of Arkham.

Hi gang. The *lighting* in Arkham is actually supposed to be orange, not the walls themselves. We were inspired by the Lars Von Trier film "The Element of Crime" for the color. (Bill Dunn, one of the BG color guys actually brought the idea up I think.) Basically, the environment of Arkham should make it clear that NOBODY gets better in there, they just get crazier and more dangerous for poor Batman to deal with when they escape. Thus the sewer-like water running through the complex, the dripping sounds, the Escher architecture, and the slime growing on everything. Unfortunately, for various reasons, we weren't able to filter character colors to lean into the orange range once we got into the full production swing. That's why the walls seem orange rather than it clearly being the lighting. Too bad, it looked awesome in the animatics I put together. kind of like they were being caged up in hell. Surprising what you can get away with on a kid's WB show.

Wow, that is really cool Dave. Thanks for that insight. I hadn't even thought too much about it. That lighting affect would have been great, but I think it would look really weird for Joker's debut to be orange half the time. Not that it matters now anyway.

I think the Arkham design is spot-on in The Batman. In fact I like its design better then the design for Arkham in BTAS, which is saying a lot since I am obsessed with BTAS.
