I thought it was pretty good. The writers and artists on the animated books really have their stuff together. They keep the action flowing so it reads like a toon that just focuses on them. The shower scene - eh. That's what I picture happens in all girl's locker rooms....  |

I said, Hmmm I don't know about that shower scene though. She said - That? The kids see worse than that on tv all the time. They could read that book. My wife is pretty easy going about that kind of stuff though. |

Spoilers to the sexy content: there's a the prison sceen (as seen the preview pages), it's implied Ivy uses the the rain forest's vines in a way not seen since Evil Dead, then there's Ivy covered in mud (also it looks like they were trying throw some fuel into the 'are they or aren't they?' debate in one pannel by having Ivy confort Harley by embracing her, calling her "baby", and it looks like from her lip pose had/is about it kiss her...) |

[shadow=green,left,300]Firstly, yes its a ploy to attract fanboys. However, lets not undermine the possiblity of bi-sexual or homosexual characters in comics. Sure it may appeal to a predominately male fanbase, but that doesnt' necessarily mean its for that purpose only.
In this case, however, I think it is. Here' an exerpt from an exclusive LoG interview with Ronnnie Del Carmen, who worked on Batman: The Animated Series[/shadow]
LoG: You did the artwork on the story 'The Harley and the Ivy' in the The Batman Adventures Holiday Special comic back in 1995. It's been long debated amongst fans that there are sexual undertones between Harley and Ivy. Do you have any opinions on that subject?
Ronnie del Carmen: This is a game that Bruce and Paul play with everyone. They knew that by making those two cavort as they do people will surmise just that. I don't know that they, Bruce and Paul, have come out and said this about them so I surely can't make any pronouncements. My take on it is that Ivy may have inclinations to either preference but has a deep attachment to the simple girl Harley is. Ivy's need is control ( plant serums that can enslave anyone or do them in, hmmm?) and here is Harley, someone who doesn't contradict her but goes along willingly. She's just too endearing and quite a find.
One must wonder if Harley, once a top level psychologist (or was it psychiatrist?), isn't playing everyone in the end when she crafted her Harley persona. She may be using her professional savvy (however sublimated) to work with whomever she partners with.

I'm still convinced it was going to be a harmless peck on the cheek...and besides, Ivy was reassuring and comforting Harley because Harley was getting homesick... I agree with you it was probably harmless (can Ivy give a "harmless" kiss though?).... but the pannel was obviously crafted to give the impression something more was going on. And I think that by reading into the pannel too much we find it represents exactly what their relationship is! If you cover up Harley we see Ivy leaning in for a kiss, taken out of context it looks like a romantic frame, or at the very least her trying to use her powers. Ivy we know swings both ways [or at least that's the impress they try to give in Hush], so it's very likely she's got more on her mind, especially when you consider how much she tries to teach Harley men are worthless and resents her running back to the Joker all the time.... But you cover up Ivy you see the pannel in it's real context, Harley is sad and Ivy is making her feel better... Harley is being conforted by her best friend, and given how obsessive Harley got over the Joker when he fell in love with her (or pretended to escape Arkham) I seriously doubt their could be anything going on between Ivy and Harley, since she seems to be able to go back to Joker without any regret, she might be crazy in love for him, but I don't think Harley is so far gone she can't see that if Ivy is a romantic prospect she's clearly the better choice (or at least the less abusive one) yeah so ummm... I forgot whatever point I was trying to make... |

Well i have and i've been enjoying it a a great deal! ;D Great art along with flowing dialogue makes for an interesteing read. Let's also not forget you the characters are!  I recommend this series in a big way. Lots of fun! |
