Was Marvel. Personally, I think DC is putting out a better product right now. I think that Marvel is at #1 just by the sheer number of books they have on the stand on a monthly basis. Really though, aside from the big 2, the smaller folks tell a big story to me anyway. Dark Horse comes in at #3 with strong success from books like Conan (I've been telling you guys about this for months now.... ) their Star Wars universe books (which will only get hotter as the movie gets closer IMO), The Goon, Grendel (movie coming out next year!!) and Hellboy. Well enough of my rambling - here's the numbers. If anyone is actually interested in this, I can make it a monthly thing. Just give me some feedback if you like it or not! ;D Publisher Comics, Mgzns. & Graphic Novels / unit share MARVEL COMICS 35.79% DC COMICS 31.80% DARK HORSE COMICS 6.87% TOKYOPOP 3.81% IMAGE COMICS 2.54% VIZ LLC 2.03% WIZARD ENTERTAINMENT 1.75% DEVILS DUE PUBLISHING 1.63% IDW PUBLISHING 1.49% FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS/EROS COMIX 0.86% ASPEN MLT INC 0.83% DREAMWAVE PRODUCTIONS 0.73% AVATAR PRESS 0.68% BONGO COMICS 0.63% A. Thanks for the feedback. I'm kind of a numbers guy in real life, so some of the #'s in the comic industry are interesting to me. The thing that bothers me though, is the numbers that Diamond bases the rankings on are from the retailer's orders - not from actual sales. Take Wolverine #20 as an example. One of the retailers here in town ordered tons of this issue, and then sold them at less than cover price, in hopes of attracting new readers, since this is a good 'jumping on point' in the series. How many other retailers did something similar? If a book does not sell for cover price, does that still make it a #2 book for the month of October? Of course, the #1 issue was Identity Crisis #5, which is a miniseries. Those are the types of numbers that make me throw my hands up and say Bah! So I'm not going to get into which book was #1, since I think it's a pretty subjective ranking. I'll just take a look at the #1 company for the month and any thing that I'd recommend taking a look at. You are, as always, free to have a take as well - if there's a book out there that you think is worth my $$ let me and everyone else know!
