Possible spoilers for those that haven't read Batman 639.
So I have been out of the comic collecting game for a long long time now, and recently started collecting again. I have started reading from about issue 600 or to current along with the other Bat Family books. What I want to know is how the Joker has fallen so far from Grace so to speak?
He is getting his butt kicked by Hush and Jason T..err Red Hood beat his head in and apparently killed him with a crowbar ala a Death in the Family. All the while Penguin seems to have risen to prominence. What happened to the Joker, he used to be the premier vilian, and it seems he is now a second rate has been villian...what have I missed?

I cant possibly follow the comics the way it is over here,But yeah he has been getting a beating lately-but both were pivotal plot devices using Batmans main Villian and his relationship with him both past and present to get it across. maybe thats just the Joker fan talking in me

I'm not sure why Joker's been getting so many butt kickings lately, but I don't like it.
I'm hoping this is leading up to Joker coming back meaner and more powerful and beating the crap out of Red Hood and pouring acid on Hush so he can Two-Face again (yeah, I know he's probably not Harvey, but they would be neat!), but I doubt it.

Joker's not dead, he will be returning in a War Games tie-in arc in August. also Jason only beat him down because he was already sulking from the beating Hush handed him. if Jason went after him before the Hush beating, my belief is that Jason would have died again. also Joker is just plain insane, his schemes are usually not long drawn out plots of revenge, ala Hush, and he's not a businessman like Black Mask (though they're close to equal on the sadist meter) or Penguin.

... if Jason went after him before the Hush beating, my belief is that Jason would have died again... I'm not so sure of that. The Joker has never been much of a physical threat, more a psychological or mental one. I'm pretty sure Jason would kick Jokers butt - bigtime. I'd put Joker's recent beatings down to his more recently used pawns in his games having reached the end of their tether and dished out the pain as payback. I also think Jason probably has other plans for Joker before his mind games are finished.

They are probably just pushing him aside for now while some of the newer villains have their time. Although Joker totally owns the new villains.
