I was in my local comic shop today and a number of people were talking with the owner about what's considered the "best" Batman comic out. The owner said he and a number of others thought Detective was great, but that they were in the minority. He said most of his customers preferred Batman, which he though was not as good. I wonder how does the members here feel? What do you think is the best Batman comics out currently?

I like Batman best. It always has the main plotlines, the biggest stuff going on, like Hush, the Red Hood, and the like.

[shadow=green,left,300]In my opinion, right now its Batman and Gotham Knights. Batman features Matt Wagner covers and Red Hood plotlines, while Gotham Knights continues to explore the Hush character. I haven't even picked up Detective in 9 months or so.
You may also want to check out Batgirl..that book has really taken a turn to the interesting![/shadow]

Like many, these things change with the tide. Although I regularly read both titles, right now, I rank Batman higher than Detective.

Batman at the top, especially with Winick writing it, then Gotham Knights, then LOTDK, then Detective. usually detective is up there at the top, but its currently in a pre war games year long arc, so its currently not in continuity. Lapham is a good writer, but he shouldn't have done pre war games like that, i mean look what does with Darkness, he could definetly do better than he's doing with Detective.

Batman and then Gotham Knights. 'Tec has been ok. LODK is typically good. I don't count the sides...but all 4 side books are great. ('Wing, Robin, Batgirl, BoP)

As of now, Batman. Right now Detective is going pre-war game and I don't like that. I like it when it stays up to date.

Batman, it has the main stories, and typically better writers and artists.

its a real close tie for me, i was really enjoying batman about a year ago when winnick started with the scarebeast arc, but when the first lapham story came out in detective i ewas really hooked. since then batman has picked up some great steam in recent months with the red hood arc, and unfortunately the lapham arc is losing some steam the further we go into it. im hoping for detective to improve and batman to keep at the good pace its at currently.

I would definitely have to go with Batman and Gotham Knights but I do like Tec an alwful lot. Nightwing, BOP and Robin also round them out nicely.

While Detective Comics was the starter for for Batman, lately I preferred Batman as comics because the stories I've read he put his investigations ahead of the victims in Detective Comics. In part one, he humiliated a 14 year-old girl who didn't know better. In part two, he controlled the tempo on an interview with a victim's mother, not what to do in a police situation. IN Batman, he was team first, as he respected Nightwing's actions in his battle against Amazo. Previously, he respected his previous allies who participated in his battle in War GAmes. Batman MUST NOT take his teammates or friends for granted.

I think I myself tend to prefer Batman more lately. As stated, it seems to have the main plot lines. I've liked the Red Hood storyline so far. Detective could be more engaging if they really did something good with the backup stories. Right now they seem to be just filler. I wish they could really do something exciting, like Manhunter was decades ago.
