OK Folks-I've got a story for ya.It all goes back to the first Batman comic I ever read.I remember I was about 7 or 8 years old and although I knew Batman from the SuperFriends and the Adam West show,I had never really been much into the comics.I mostly collected STAR comics like Peter Porker or He-Man.One day I was checking out the comic racks at my local store and I found the movie adaptation to The Muppetts Take Manhatten...and as I was picking it up I noticed another comic.This one had Batman wearing kryptonite gloves and beating the holy hell out of Superman.Naturally,I was intrigued.The story involved Aliens,a dying Actor,and Batman and Superman drinking milk and getting into a bar fight.As cheesy as that sounds,I was hooked.From that moment on I knew Batman was the man.I can honestly say that it was this comic more than anything else that made me a Bat-fan and I must have read it a thousand times.Sometime over the years it got lost or destroyed and I had no way of remembering what issue it was.I have searched off and on for the last five years trying to track down this comic.I posted here and on other message boards,I talked to dealers and other fans,I even wrote to DC and Wizard magazine asking for help all to no avail.Then,today,I was searching the web and found a website that had a listing for every comic ever featuring Superman and Batman.I started looking in the early 80's and finally found it-Worlds Finest issue no. 302 originally released in 1984.I RAN to my nearest comic store and started digging through the back issue bins like a man possessed...and there it was.The only copy,in near mint condition,with a price of 3 bucks.As I walked to the register I couldnt believe that my Holy Grail of comics was finally in my grasp.I thought back to just how much this one comic has shaped my life and my attitudes towards not only Batman but collecting as well.I cracked it open and read it cover to cover as soon as I got to the car...and it was just as good as it was the first time ;D
